Brass
/ Bronze Horseshoe-shaped Trivet with Star
This is one I haven't seen before. It is made of brass or bronze
and has a really wonderful dark, rich patina and a smooth and slightly worn surface.
The 6-pointed star that is cast into the center of the horseshoe is marked with
the words "Good Luck", and there is an Oriental character to the lettering style.
This trivet was purchased in Northern California and probably dates back to the
days when San Francisco and other cities had numerous Chinese laundries.
Good . . . . . $65.00 SOLD
Folding
/ Hinged Trivet for Pease Combination Flatiron / Fluter
This odd and unusual-looking trivet is a mystery
to many with a function that is actually very cleaver and unique. It is extremely
unusual in design, having a hinged front "toe" that allows it to fold down.
Invented by Horace Pease, the maker of the highly-regarded Pease Combination iron,
the trivet was designed to allow the iron to go from being a flatiron to a fluter.
When used as a traditional trivet it functioned as a stand that was a perfect fit
for the base of the charcoal heated Pease flatiron. But the second function
provided that when the trivet was moved to the edge of the ironing board or ironing
table so that the toe was allowed to overhang and fold down over the edge, it allowed
the iron to be laid over on its side so that the fluting plate that was attached
to the side of the iron could be used in an upright position, converting it from
flatiron to fluter. The trivet is the hardest part of the complete Pease iron
set to find, as many undoubtedly got separated and forever lost. Whether you
use to complete your set or simply to display for its interesting and intriguing
design I guarantee you will love the condition of this example.
Good . . . . . $95.00 SOLD
Double
Pointed Ironing "Shoe Often mistakenly
called a trivet, this innovative ironing device was clamped onto the sole of a sadiron
after it had been heated on the stove, helping to alleviate the persistent problem
of the soot and ashes that were invariably picked up by iron bottom as it was warming
and which were so un-welcomed around clean laundry.
Good . . . . . $25.00 SOLD
Small
Square Ober Manufacturing Co. Trivet The
small 3 1/4" x 3 1/4" example is one of the harder-to-find Ober Manufacturing Co.
pieces that will help you complete your ever-growing set of the many different Ober
irons and trivets.
Good . . . . . $65.00 SOLD
The
Griswold Classic Trivet Sought after by
Griswold / Erie collectors as well as by trivet and pressing iron aficionados, this
good-looking trivet is in excellent condition and features crisp, clear casting
of the letters on front as well as the Griswold pattern number 1602 on the back.
Hang it on the wall or set it under your favorite Griswold sadiron.
Good . . . . . $65.00 SOLD
Cast
Iron Trivet with Bow Check out how the handle of this trivet was cast
to look like a ribbon tied in a bow! A nice piece!
Good . . . . . $55.00 SOLD
Unusual
Wireware / Wire Rod Trivet with Initials Most wireware and welded wire
rod trivets I have seen are decorative, but this one has the added feature of having
the initials "I D C" incorporated into the design.
Good . . . . . $65.00 SOLD
2
Ornate Cast Iron Trivets The trivet on the left has a great sawtooth
rail design, and the trivet on the right has two hearts cleverly cast into the design.
Both are wonderfully complex in design!
Good . . . . . $65.00 / ea. SOLD
