The
Thompson Apple Parer / Corer / Sectioner
The Thompson may not be the rarest of peelers,
but it is certainly one of the most graphic and highly sought after. I
attempted to make these look common a few years ago by buying, selling, or trading
off 5 of them over a two year span. It was an amazing string of coincidences
with a large amount of luck mixed in. I actually got two of them in one
day. I drove 8 hours to get one and then traded it for a sewing machine
the same day.
Most patented apple peelers worked with gears and cranks and various designed
cutters and knives, but with this one you lift the arm on the geared arch, load
it up, and then swing the arm down to quickly peel the apple and at the bottom the cutter
sections and cores it for you. Quick, fast and no fuss, and just a little muss.
A neat piece!
Buchi Apple Parer
This is a hard to
find patented apple parer. It is much heavier duty than many of those
you see. There is no rust and no pitting. A nice one!
In operation, when the crank is turned table rotates a full circle and then
the kickoff is activated and kicks the apple into the waiting bucket. Good........$40.00 / ea.

Sinclair Scott Apple / Peach Parer
The Sinclair Scott may not be
the rarest parer to be found, but it is certainly one of the prettiest,
with great looking hearts cast into the wheel. The design of the fork
and the blades were made to work for peaches, which must have been a pretty
messy job. Buy it to use if you want to make the pie-making chore easier
on yourself and don't want one of those new overpriced ones you see advertised
for sale in the fancy-dancy kitchenware catalogs.

Lathe Type Apple Parers
Apple parers
came in all different designs and sizes. These are referred to as
lathe types. They are Baystates by Goodell.
Lathe
Type Apple Parers
This one is a larger
version of the regular Baystate and is known as one of the best and most reliable
users.
Advance"
Lathe Type Apple Parer
This one is
by Reading and they tried to incorporate every feature from every other parer
into one. It works really well.
Lathe
Type Apple Parer
This one is known
as the little giant. It has features and performs tasks much larger ones
claim, and hence the name "Little Giant".
Lathe
Type Patented Potato Parer
I have heard that this is the new thing at fairs and
shows. Potato ribbons. A better deal and better tasting than
kettle corn. It has features and performs much like standard lathe
type apple peelers with a slightly different head.

Reading Hardware Apple Parer
Mfg. By Harbister Bros. This
is one of the first parers that was produced and distributed by the Reading
Hardware Co. The history of this company is described in great detail
in Don Thornton's comprehensive new book called Apple Parers. The
unique and unusual feature with this parer is the double turntable, and return
feature of this mechanism. Every aspect of this example is proper including
the fragile kickoff, the paring arm, and all of the castings. There is
no rust and no pitting. A nice one! In operation, when the
crank is turned table rotates, first in one direction, and then reverses to
go in the other, all the while peeling the apple before the kickoff is finally
activated and kicks the apple into the waiting bucket.
Good + . . . . . $325.00
SOLD!

Reading 78 Apple Parers
Common but
durable, the Reading 78 is the old standby for paring apples. One would
wonder why they ever had to make another one after this one came out it was such
a good design. In fact, they are still making them today. But these
are vintage.
