Stanley
#40 Scrub Plane This is the nicest example
of Stanley's popular and versatile scrub plane that I have ever had. Note
the decal on the handle in the second picture. This one is equipped with the
optional straight cutter. No problems, and no disappointments here!
Excellent ........ $95.00 SOLD
Stanley #
48 T & G Tongue & Groove Plane This an
early example that would be referred to as a Type 1 It cuts a 5/16ths
groove and can be used on boards from 3/4" to 1 1/4. These early #48's
were japanned, and this one is missing a lot of the original finish, but is not
rusted or pitted. To use you cut the
tongue, and then swing the fence to cut the groove. The cutters are nice.
It will make a good user.
Good + . . . . . $75.00 SOLD!
Stanley
#96 Chisel Plane This is the interesting 1/4" chisel plane that Stanley first introduced back in 1888.
This version dates from just after the turn of the century with Stanley in block
letters on one side. There is pitting on that side, and half of the name
has disappeared, but the plane itself is still OK, and this will make for a good
user. The idea was you could peel up a sliver of wood, set a small nail or screw,
and then glue the sliver back down for an invisible connection. They did
think and do things differently back
then. Good . . . . . . $55.00 SOLD!!
Stanley
#147 Double Tongue and Groove This example
must date from during the Second World War and right near the end of its production
given the unusual finish scheme of partial japanning and partial nickeled finish.
The tops of the handles were nickeled, but most of this has flaked off. The
skate and up to the side of the base is also nickeled and this has about 85% remaining.
There is no casting damage or rust or pitting. One cutter is original and
the groove cutter is from a 45. Different and Nice!
Good +........ $225.00 SOLD
Stanley
# 378 Weatherstrip Plane This unusual
special use weatherstriping plane is in unused mint condition. The box is
near perfect as well. The rods which are often missing are present.
There is one cutter and 3 depth stops. Very nice!!
Good +........ $295.00 SOLD
Good +........ $1295.00 SOLD
Stanley Second Model # 113
Compass Plane
This 113 has the nickel wheel w/ 4 holes. It is
just a little dirty and has seen little use. It is fully functional
and pretty nice overall. Everything is tight and proper and overall it is
much nicer than the one above condition wise. These early versions are
much harder to find than the later ones.
Good . . . . . $150.00 SOLD!
Stanley
# 113 Compass Plane The 113 is a
very versitle and well known plane. This example is ready to go
and in nice condition. Very nice!!
Good +........ $195.00 SOLD
Stanley
# 340 Furring PlaneThe # 340 Furring
Plane is one of the rarest & most unusual planes that Stanley
ever produced, and this example is in super overall condition. These furring
planes were only produced for a short 12 year span (1905-1917) which was during
Stanley's period of near total dominance of the metallic plane and woodworking tool
market. They were continually developing and introducing many of the
rare and unusual specialty planes during this period, which was their heyday period
of plane manufacture and development. It was the coming of the new-fangled
electrical period and the start of the 1st World War that put an end to this period
in Stanley's colorful history, not a lack of ideas, or quality, or dissatisfaction
on their customers part. It was just a new era after the war, and they
were compelled to change with it, or fall behind, thus resulting in the short manufacturing
period of some very rare planes that they had developed. This example retains nearly
90% of its original but thin black japanned finish, even on the sole, and it is
rust or pit free on the exposed metal surfaces. The cutter is 5.5 inches long,
and is stamped Patent Ap'd For, along with the Stanley J Trademark Logo, thus making
it a Type 1 and dating its manufacture to between 1905 - 1910. The proper
beech handle and knob are in super condition also. These rare planes are not
offered up very often, so if you have an empty hole on the shelf this one will work
nicely!!
Excellent / Fine........ $995.00 SOLD
Stanley
# 97 Cabinet Makers Chisel Plane According
to the book, this plane has the wrong cap. But given where I found it and
the circumstances surrounding the purchase, I find it hard to imagine how that came
to be. It is certain that no one did it purposely and the fact that the cap
is japanned leads me to believe that it may be proper. I believe that the
prototype model that was offered up at Browns auction a while back was also fitted
with a similar cap. In any case the rest of the plane is in superior condition,
retains nearly all of its original finish and has just a nice even patina on the
exposed metal parts. The front corners are proper and there is plenty of cutter
left as well. Different and Nice!!
Good........ $495.00 SOLD
Stanley
#62 Low Angle Cabinet Makers Plane This
is the nicest example of Stanley's popular and versatile low angle cabinet makers
plane that I have had in a long time. Note the condition of the rosewood handle.
The throat area which is oftentimes damaged is perfect. The japanning is near
perfect. The front knob does not have any problems and still retains its original
finish. This plane was not used more than a couple of times. The condition
is second to none and a nicer example will not be found easily.
Good +........ $495.00 SOLD
Stanley #164 Plane This
plane is in pretty nice condition. It is considered one the the hardest to
find of all planes that Stanley produced. They were introduced in 1926 and
production ended with the beginning of the war. Some have speculated that
there was only one production run and then this supply was offered over the next
20 or so years. The adjusting mechanism is vertical and very tricky to get
to operate, a factor that probably held back sales and plays a factor in its limited
availability and super rarity. The cutter on
this one is the rectangular block, thus dating it from near the end of the offering.
The handle has a tight hairline in it that I do not think has been glued, but it
is still stable.
The front knob is nice, but there is a small chip in the boss where the rod screws
into the moveable throat piece. This area still works properly but there is
a relief at this point. The japanning is well over 95% and looks good.
The sides are nice, and there is very light pitting or texture on the sole. This
would lap out easily if so desired.
Good +........ $1695.00 SOLD
Stanley
# 144 3/8" Corner Rounding Plane This plane is in very nice condition and there is little
sign of use. It still retains most of its japanned finish, and there is no
rust or pitting to speak of. The size designation is clearly stamped
in the bottom as well. Ready for the bench or shelf!
Good........ $295.00 SOLD
Good........ $295.00 / Choice SOLD
Stanley
# 56 Core Box Plane This is a super condition and very desirable example
of one of Stanley's rarest and hard to find planes that they produced. This
planes patent was taken out in 1909, and Stanley offered for sale the same year.
It was only offered until 1923 when stocks produced before the War ran out and no
more were made. It is a rare plane. This example still sports 95% or
more of the original japanning. The exposed faces are very nice with just
some spotting and no pitting or rust. It is one of the nicest of these that
I have had over the years.
Fine........ $1295.00 SOLD
Fine........ $695.00 SOLD
Stanley
# 71 Router Plane w/ Original Box This one is like new. The nickel is bright, and
it has the guide and 3 cutters

Stanley
# 444 Dovetail Plane
The Stanley #444 dovetail plane is one of the oddest planes made by Stanley. It
was offered for a little over 25 years beginning in 1912. This example is in its original box, but
appears to have had some restoration work done on it. It appears to have
been chrome plated at some point, and I believe the spur blocks are recast
replacements. I do not see any damage, welds, or pitting, but it has
been worked over. The box of cutters is present, with 3 in it, and 1 in
the plane
making for a full set. The instruction on the lid are readable and there
is an instruction pamphlet.
Good . . . . . . $650.00 SALE PRICE . . . . . $495.00 SOLD!!
Stanley
# 40 1/2 Scrub Plane
The #40 1/2 is the larger version of the more common #40 scrub plane. This
example is all original and the nicest condition I have seen in years.
There are still remains of the decal on the handle, The cutter is marked with the sweetheart logo,
and is full length. This plane looks to have never been used, and is
waiting to go back to work or put high up on the shelf it is so nice. Nice!!Excellent. . . . . . $175.00 SOLD!!
Stanley #
83 Cabinet Scraper The cutter is original and
has the sweetheart logo. The roller is original and proper. A nice
example.
Good + . . . . . $125.00 SOLD!
Stanley
Hollow & Round Auxiliary Bottoms & #5 Nosing Tool for Stanley
# 45 Multi Plane
This is a very nice and hard to find set of Hollow & Round Bottoms Stanley
offered for use with the #45 plane. It includes all the different size
auxiliary bottoms plus the nosing bottom and cutter. The set
includes the numbered pairs #6, #8, #10, #12 & #5 Nosing bottom.
Only the Nosing tool has its cutter, the others are missing but can be had from
the stock set of 55 cutters. They are the
later nickeled style, and the nickel is near perfect on all but one that has
some minor loses. I have pictured each set individually so be sure to
view them all.
Good + . . . . . . $SALE PRICE . . . . . $495.00 SOLD!
Stanley
#28 & 29 Rounding Tools
Both are near mint, sharp and ready for use. They are both
sweetheart era. These are for rounding or easing the edges on boards
and work great for trhat. A handy and
useful little tool.
Fine . . . . $30.00 / Pair SOLD!
Stanley #
113 Compass Plane The 113 is one of the best known, and easily recognizable
of all Stanley special use planes. The sole of this compass plane can be adjusted to a
convex or concave curve with a simple turn of the front knob. This
example is from near the turn of the century and has a lateral adjuster that
earlier versions did not. It has a nice even patina, and shows some
signs of use, but not abuse, and is ready to be put back into use. A nice
example.Good + . . . . . $125.00
Stanley
# 171 Router Plane
The plane was designed to cut out door hinges. They were offered with
three cutters, but we only have the 5/8" one here. The japanning is good,
and the handles are nice. These are often missing the rods and fence, but
they are present here, and proper.
Good+. . . . . . . $225.00
Stanley #171 Door Plane & Router w/ Original Fence
& Rods
This nice example is basically damage
free other than some missing japanning and some staining on the sole.
It still retains approx 90% or more of the original finish. The wood is nice and
original. These are one of the most unusual of all special use
planes that Stanley produced, but its usefulness ran into the electric router and
its production period was short lived. There are two original cutters included,
with the 5/8" missing.
Good........ $345.00 SOLD
