Stanley # 4 1/2 C Extra Wide Corrugated Bottom Smooth Plane  This #4 1/2 C corrugated smooth plane is a  Type 7 dating it from right around the turn of the century.   The graceful Rosewood handle and knob look good.    The cutter is near full length and has the Q / Pat 92 logo .  There is well over 80% of the finish and this plane has been carefully and tastefully cleaned and lapped.  A nice plane that will be a great user.

Stanley # 4 1/2 Oversize Smooth Plane   This Stanley # 4 1/2 extra large smooth plane looks to be a type 16 from just before WWII .   The paint is original and 90% or better.  The cutter is near full length.  The Rosewood handle & Knob are nice.   There is no rust or pitting just a nice even patina.  A super condition plane nice enough for the shelf, or ready to go back to work.

Stanley #4 1/2 C Smooth Plane  This is the nicest #4 1/2 that I have had in years.  It is all original and looks like it came o the store shelf yesterday.  It has never been cleaned, rehabbed or anything else, it is just a minty nice example of a close to 80 year old plane. It has a Y trademark cutter, 1 patent date behind the frog, and not having a marked cap would make this a type 12 and pretty much dates it from the early 1920's.   It is as nice as one could hope for.

Stanley #5 Smooth Bottom Jack Plane  No problems here, this #5 Jack Plane is very nice.  It has a sweetheart cutter,, the external frog adjustment, a beautiful Rosewood handle and knob, and all in all is a very nice example that will make for a great user.  It meets the criteria to be a Type 12 dating it from the 1920's or so.   Very Nice.

Stanley #5 Type 4 Pre Lateral Jack Plane  This is a nice early example. The bed is not marked, and only the cutter / chip breaker and inside the brass nut are marked.  The handle looks like an early and well done replacement.  It is Rosewood.    No other problems.  Clean it and display it.  Nice.

Stanley # 5 1/4 Junior Jack Smooth Plane    This # 5 1/4 smooth plane is a pre WWII vintage w/ graceful Rosewood handle and the external frog adjuster. The cutter is full length and never been ground.   It has been tastefully cleaned and rehabbed, and looks like new.  Very Nice!!

Stanley #5 1/2 Type 12 Extra Wide Jack Plane   This is a great size plane.  When properly tuned and sharpened they can move a lot of wood in a short time.  Not to big, and not too small, a bit heavier than the 5, and a bit wider.  It use to be one of my favorites.   

This plane has been tastefully cleaned and is in very nice condition.   It is ready for the bench or shelf.

Stanley #6 Type 10-11 Jointer Plane  This super condition plane dates from 1910-1912 and does not conform exactly to the type study but i seriously doubt it has been changed out.  The condition is second to none.  The finish is great the wood is great the cutter is nice.  There is not rust or pitting to speak of, and this plane is all original and has never been cleaned.  It has seen little or no use and would rate as excellent / fine on any condition chart.  The throat is perfect,  the japanning is 95% or better.  There will be no complaints about the condition.  These Fore planes are good for those who do not want to push the larger #7 or #8 all day,  and the reduced weight and length make a difference later in the day.  This example is near perfect and exhibits just some minor shelf tarnish from sitting too long.   It is ready to go back to work.  A Nice One!!

3 Stanley Aluminum Bench Planes  Stanley made and sold a few different Aluminum planes and other tools back in the 20's and 30's.  They made an aluminum version of the #18 block plane, the  #78 and the #45, some levels, a brace, as well as these three different size bench planes, the A4, the A5,  & the A6.  

Each of these planes is pretty nice with no major detractions.  They are quite soft, and can oftentimes be found with deep scratches in the soles or sides, but these 3 examples are pretty nice.  Each has been fitted with one of Stanley's aftermarket aluminum handles that were typically offered separately.   I suppose the collector felt they better represented the flavor of the aluminum planes and he probably swapped them out just for the look.

Stanley # A4 Smooth Plane    Stanley made and sold a few different Aluminum planes and other tools back in the 20's and 30's.  They made an aluminum version of the #18 block plane, the  #78 and the #45, some levels, a brace, as well as these three different size bench planes, the A4, the A5,  & the A6.   This #A4's  Rosewood handle has been refinished and the sides and sole have been carefully lapped.  It looks great. The cutter is full length.   It is nice with some minor nickel losses. A tough plane to find anymore.  Especially in this nice condition.

Stanley #A4 Aluminum Smooth Plane  This unusual plane is in super original condition and has all the original and proper parts that it should.   The Rosewood handle and knob are very nice as well.  It appears that this plane has seen little use and has only a few cosmetic scratches on the sole and sides.   Stanley made these Aluminum bench planes in 3 sizes during the 20's and into the 30's, but due to a combination of the times, and the problems encountered in the design they were never very popular and not heavily produced.  During this period they also made a version of their  #45, #78,  and a few other pieces out of Aluminum and this exotic series of Stanley tools can be an interesting challenge to try to completely assemble.   Super!!

Stanley # 104  Liberty Bell Steel Smooth Plane  The #104 was first issued in 1876 to commemorate the Centennial.  It was discontinued in 1919 after the war.  WWI that is.  It has a steel body.  From the cutter logo we can assume this is a type 2 and dates from before 1907.  It has been tastefully, and carefully cleaned and rehabbed.  It looks great.

Stanley #6 Type 13 Fore Plane  The collector I got the current listings of planes from liked his tools looking nice.  He both used them, and displayed them.  He was from Southern California and was buying back in the 70's and 80's when there was a lot of interest, and a lot of dealers offering some very nice merchandise.  Proper cleaning of bench planes can be pretty simple, or it can be pretty involved.  It is almost an art in a sense, and it can be done well, or poorly.  This fellow had a eye, and bought it nice, or made it nice, because nearly every one of the planes I got from him has been very nice tastefully cleaned and they look great.  This one is no exception.   .   

This plane has been tastefully cleaned, and lapped  and is in very nice condition.   It is ready for the bench or shelf.

Stanley # 7 Jointer Plane The condition of this Stanley #7 smooth jointer plane is second to none.  It is a sweetheart era and looks as though it was never used.  Others may cost more, but none will operate better than a regular old Stanley bench plane when properly tuned.   It will make a great user or is nice enough for the shelf..

Stanley # 8C Jointer Plane   This #8C corrugated bottom jointer plane has a stress crack in the throat but is usable and ready to go back to work.  The cutter is nice and near full length.    It will make a good user.

Stanley #8C Type 9 24" Jointer Plane  This nice condition plane dates from the just after the turn of the century and before 1907 according to Rodger Smiths type study on the subject.   The throat is nice, and the japanning is approx 80% or better.  The sides and sole are rust and pit free, and this plane has never been cleaned.  It is in nice original condition showing just minor signs of wear that come with careful use.  Both the Handle and knob are made of the quality Rosewood that Stanley utilized during this period.  These 24" jointers are a favorite of the user crowd because of their versatility & size, and are a true workhorse.  It is ready to go back to work.  A Nice One!!

Stanley # 8  Jointer Plane   This # 8 jointer plane is a type 11 dating it from 1910 or later.  It was the largest plane Stanley produced and is in nice condition with lots of original japanning.    The Rosewood handle is nice.    The cutter is OK and has over 1"  or so left to the slot.  It does have the external frog adjust feature and will make a great user.

Stanley # 7C Jointer Plane This corrugated Stanley #7 jointer plane is very nice.  It has seen little if any use.  The original buyer paid special attention to condition, and he picked a nice one here.  No apologies here.   It  will make a great user.

Stanley #21 Transitional Smooth Plane   This is the smallest size transitional that Stanley made.  The condition is second to none.

Stanley #23 Transitional Smooth Plane Transitional bench planes are rarely found in this nice condition.  Other than some minor finish loss along one side this plane is in Excellent + condition.  The cutter carries the T trademark,  thus  dating it from about 1907.  The japanning is 98% or better, and the bottom is full thickness and shows little evidence of use.  You will not be disappointed with the condition.

Stanley #22 Transitional Smooth Plane   The #22 was the second smallest transitional Stanley made.   This example is in very nice condition, and dates from just after the turn of the century.
