Stanley
#55 Combination Plow Plane in Original Box
This is the nicest example of one of these
that I have had in 15 years. It has only been removed from the
brown waxed paper to inspect the parts. It is truly mint, and I
doubt it has ever touched a blade to wood. It is one of the last
models produced by Stanley before they finally ended production of this
plane in the 60"s. Sometimes these unused planes exhibit rust or
problems from improper storage, but that is not the case here.
This plane is dead mint with 100% shinny Nickel plating everywhere.
The cutters are bright and shinny as well.. The box is nice as
well noting the area of the label missing on the front.

I f you are looking for a good complete
user I have them for sale on our second site
www.antiqbuyer.com
for about half as much as I am asking for this. I do not believe
that you will ever see a nicer example, so if you have the right place
to store it and are looking for a collector quality top shelf example of
a 55 plane, look no further.

Stanley
#1 Smooth Planes
The Stanley #1 is the most avidly
sought of all Stanley Planes for tool collectors. These 2
examples are the famous
Stanley / Bailey #1 Smooth Plane. On the left is a nice
example that is in super nice original condition. It is a earlier
model pre 1920's which is denoted by the lack of the Stanley logo
cast into the cap. Other than the name Stanley cast into the lever cap on
later models, and the logo on the cutter the #1 plane body was
unmarked. The finish on the
handle and knob are original and 90% or more of the original
japanning remains. There is no rust or pitting to
speak of on the body or sole. The throat is the proper size and
nice as well with no stress cracks or
widening from chips. The
cutter is a more recent NOS replacement with the notched rectangle mark. I
have another earlier cutter for it, but it is worn and the logo is
unreadable. There are plenty of #1 planes out there, but not many in as nice
condition as this example.
On the left is another example from the same general era with
the T logo on the cutter. The
handle and knob are original and in super condition. The paint /
japanning is original and near perfect as well. There is some
light staining / patina on the body sides but no pitting or rust.
The lever cap has the proper B casting mark on the back side. It
is as nice an example as you will find anywhere.

Stanley #45 Combination
Plow Plane in Green Box Stanley #45's are a dime a
dozen and readily available. Finding one this early in its
original box is a rare occasion. On our other site I offer later
models for between 2-300.00 complete and in their original boxes.
This is a different situation and few # 45's combination planes are known in their original
boxes from this early a period. This is a type 4 and dates from
the period from 1890-1892 when Stanley first began to nickel plate this
line of planes. It appears it sat on a shelf for 100 or so years as
the cutters show no evidence of ever having been used. A rare
piece!!

Phillips Patented Improved Plow Plane This is one of the
later models by the same name as the plane above. This example is
marked on all the parts #66 which I assume is the assembly #. Overall
the condition is good with some of the decoration and highlights still
remaining on portions. The fence does not seem to want to tighten on
the rod properly, but I did not fuss with it. The small depth stop and
screw for it are missing.

Leonard Bailey's #3 Size
Victor Smooth Plane
Here is a rare and
desirable plane from Leonard Bailey's famous Victor line of planes.
This line of planes was produced for a short period between 1875 and
1888, the period of time when Leonard Bailey had left Stanley's Rule and
Levels employ and was again out on his own producing a superior line of
woodworking planes and related tools in competition with Stanley. This
example has some minor and repairable problems, but it in overall good
condition. First there is a crack in the top of the front knob. It is
cosmetic, but it is there. The pin in the adjuster to move the cutter is
missing and need to be replaced. The chip breaker is missing as well,
but the small rectangular center piece is present, so the cutter still
locks in place nicely. The body is very nice, the handle is nice, and
the blade cap is good. There is no damage in the weak area where the
cap slides in, or near the throat. The price reflects the problems
which are correctable.
