Patented & Manufactured Spoke Shaves & Similar Tools by Tom Lamond  The most through and comprehensive book ever written, or ever to be published on the subject.  Lots of info, and profusely illustrated, this book has it all.  The author died and I see some sites trying to sell this book for over $300.

8 Hagen Patent Gun Stock Makers Tools / Broach   R. A. Hagen was granted a patent for his unusual cutting tool design in 1950.  The patent # is 2534816 and it comes up easily with a Google search.  Each of the 8 different sizes shown is marked with the name and patent number.  They look to have never been used.  In the patent he claims they are Gun Barrel Broaches or tools for fitting barrels to gunstocks.  He notes that they could be used in other trades as well.  Note the wheel design of the three on the left.  The idea was you could set it up to cut when pushing, or pulling, and one could rotate the wheel to reveal a new sharp cutting area as needed. The others have cutters that can be removed and changed out or sharpened as needed.  A nice assortment.   Nice & Different.

Preston No 1393 S Patent Reeder / Reeding Tool / Plane   A scarce patented reeding tool / plane by Preston.  Preston is a well known and well respected English maker of edge tools.  There is just one cutter, but profiles of your choice can be cut / made from hacksaw blades.

Leonard Bailey "Victor" No. 41 Double Iron Spoke Shave   This spoke shave is not a Stanley product.  It was made by Leonard Bailey during the period when he was producing the Victor line of planes and tools.  They do not turn up very often.  Nice enough.

Stanley # 28 & 29 Edge Rounding Planes / Shaves Sweetheart era marks make then approx. 100 years old.  Great tools for the job.

Stanley No. 68 Rabbet Spoke Shave  This Stanley No. 68 Rabbet shave has loop handles. The cutter is 2 1/8' wide. Long original Sweetheart era cutter. Very nice original condition!

Stanley No. 60 Double Spoke Shave  This Stanley No. 60 double shave is in excellent condition. A later model w/ unbreakable steel hold downs. Long original cutters. Looks to have never been used.

Stanley No. 65 Chamfer Spoke Shave  Super nice original condition!! An interesting design with adjustable fences for different size chamfers. They work well giving a nice finished edge to boards. Stanley No. 65 Chamfer Spoke Shave  This Stanley No. 65 Chamfer shave has adjustable fences for up to 1 1/2 wide chamfers. Long original cutter w/ J trademark that was used in the late `1800s.  Some missing finish and overall nice original condition!

Stanley No. 67 Universal Rabbet Spoke Shave  This Stanley No. 67 Universal Rabbet shave has the round bottom. The cutter is 1 7/8' wide. Long original Sweetheart era cutter. Very nice original condition!

Miller Falls No. 1 Cigar Spoke Shave  This unusual Millers Falls Spoke shave has a round body and the nickname "Cigar Shave".   Nice original condition!

Stanley No. 55 Hollow Face Spoke Shave  This Stanley No. 55 hollow spoke shave is a bit dirty and will clean nicely. It has a long original cutter and lots of original finish.  It is in excellent condition otherwise.

Stanley No. 73 Razor Edge Spoke Shave  This Stanley No. 73 Razor Edge spoke shave is in near mint condition.  A rare thing as they are usually all worn out or damaged.  Has a long original cutter w/ good tabs. The cast iron versions of these shaves are much much harder to find than the Boxwood versions and especially so in this condition.  Very Nice!!

Phelps Manufacturing Co. Oakland CA. Patternmakers / Model Makers Shaves  These were all bought together.  Most have Phelps marked cutters. The top one is an unfinished aluminum mold for one.  Some are also brass or bronze.  Phelps was a well known,  well documented California maker of pattern makers tools for the trades prior to WWII.   All or smaller groups.

Cincinnati Tool Company / Cin' ti Tool Co. Spoke Shave   This heavy duty spoke shave is in nice overall condition. The cutter is marked Hargrave which is typical. It has some life left but will need to be replaced after a few sharpening's.  Little or no rust or pitting to speak of.    A good user.

Stanley # 151 Adjustable Spoke Shave   This English 151 shave is in excellent little used condition. The cutter is proper with plenty of life left. No issues. It will make for a good user!

C. S. Osborne One Arm Rosewood Spoke Shave  Another super nice piece the well known maker of leather working tools.  The mouth has a brass wear plate and the marked cutter is near full width.  These are very hard to find.  Very Nice.

Millers Falls # 2 Rosewood Handle Spoke Shave w/ Multi Position Base  Super condition.  The base can be taken out and reinserted every which way, end for end or flipped with each creating a different bottom profile flat, curved, convex, etc.

Cast Iron Cut Out Design Router  This is a great looking piece.  The cutter is 1" wide.  It is flat, sharp, and ready for use or the collection.   Nice

Stearns Flex Bottom Spoke Shave  This is an unusual design for a spoke shave.  It has a flexible steel plate in the back.  It is a hard to find shave from the king of the shave makers Sterns.  They must have had 20-30 different forms shapes and sizes, and this is the most unusual.

Stair Makers Handrail Shave  This piece is unmarked as to maker but it is very nicely done.  The body is cast brass and the cutters well made and sharp.  I assume it would be used for the final scraping of stair rail from the shape and form.

Windsor Beader  This version of the Windsor Beadier is the last model produced and harder to find than the models above.  The condition is superb.  Having never seen one in an original box, I do not know what to make of this one, but there is a halo of sorts on the top where a label might have once been.  There are 3 double ended cutters included.  The nickel on one side of the head is near mint, and shows some wear on the other.  The handles are minty nice.

Stanley #65 Chamfer Spoke Shave  An interesting design with adjustable fences for different size chamfers.  They work well for certain projects giving a nice finished edge to boards or projects.  Note the early full circle logo on the full length cutter.   Nice enough for the collection, or put it back to work.

Record 151 & 151R Spoke Shaves  These are knockoffs of the Stanley 151 and 151 R  Radius - round bottom spoke shave.  They look to have never been used.  They are made of malleable steels, so should be able to withstand a fall or two.    The Stanley Version of the radius bottom one can bring more than the pair of these.     Nice.

Ohio Tool Co. #65 Chamfer Shave   This is a rare shave.  The Stanley version is tough to find, those by other outfits are near impossible.

2 Windsor Patent Beaders  Windsor beading planes were patented by two fellows from Windsor Conn. Mr. Orlando Williams, and Lawrence Poole.  They were issued 2 patents in 1885 for this design and that information is clearly stamped into the ebonized frame of the top.   This style is usually referred to as the second model of these beaders.  Note that each has a different cutter.  There is only one profile of each cut and there are 4 relatively large bead profiles on one and 6 finer profiles on the other .

Stanley # 62 Double Cutter Spoke Shave  Good long cutters w/ 1920s - 1930s Sweetheart era cutters.  Cast iron hold downs are good. For the two is better than one crowd or use on squirrely grain woods.  Clean & nice!!

Stearns Flexible Sole Spoke Shave  Well used.  Small crack in the steel flex sole at the bend point.  Not a real issue.  Looks more gimmicky than practical to me.  Guess that is what makes them popular.

Record Multi Plane Cutters   I am not sure if these are a full set for something, or just extras the fellow bought to use in his 45/ 55.  They are marked record and look to have never been used.   nickel loss

Stanley #57 1/2 Coopers Spoke Shave  This is for the TOP shave shown in the first pic. The owner identifies it as a #57 1/2 which is not a listed # in Walters book.  It may be a 56 1/2, but with this style cutter holder I am not sure.  It has a 4" wide cutter.  The cutter is held the same way as a #59 with a cast iron crossbar.  This is Stanley's  largest spoke shave at 18" long with a 4" cutter. There is no finish left, but it is damage free.  A good user.

Stanley #57 Coopers Spoke Shave  This is for the MIDDLE shave shown in the first pic. The owner identifies it as a #57.  It has a 2 1/8" wide cutter.  The cutter is held the same way as a #59 with a cast iron crossbar.  One screw is a replacement but it is damage free, and the cross piece is not cracked or damaged.  This is a one of Stanley's extra large spoke shaves that is almost 18" long.  They are useful for large work where you have lots of room and want your hands out of the way.  This is a hard to find extra large early shave in good condition..

Stanley #56 Coopers Spoke Shave  This is for the BOTTOM shave shown in the first pic. This is a nice example of one of Stanley's extra large spoke shaves that is almost 18" long.  They are useful for large work where you have lots of room and want your hands out of the way.  This is a hard to find extra large early shave in very nice condition.

Odd Spoke Shave   I could not find this shave in the spoke shave book. It might be there, but - - - - - I see no maker marks. It is an interesting design with the tabs and heavy cast blade holder. The condition is nice, noting the collectors trademark coat of lacquer.

Stanley 62 Double Cutter Reversible Spoke Shave  Like new.  Dates from the teens or so with its triangle shape logo on both cutters. 98% original japanning.  Super piece.

Stanley No. 63X Sweetheart Era Spoke Shave  This Stanley No. 63X is in very nice condition w/ a long near full length Sweetheart era cutter. The body has lots of original finish. It is marked 63 x on the body behind the cutter. A hard to find shave.

Folding Blade Race Knife   This is a super piece, in super condition.  Note the file work and chamfered edges.  The second folding blade is an unusual feature.  The mark says George Grau Barman, or Darmen.  Not much turned up about him or the firm with a Google Search.  These were used to mark lumber with things like ID marks, or I have been told for such things as marking the water line on a hull in boatbuilding.

Lion Machine Co. No. 4 Universal Trimmer Very nice. Proper original handle. Cutters are sharp and damage free. Over the years these trimmers were made and sold by several different companies. This is an earlier version with the patent info and Bridgeport CT location info cast into the body. It was such a popular tool that several companies are still offering clones.

1917 Australia Lithgow Bayonet  WWI era and Australian.  Nice overall condition, good edge, and not all scared up with dings or dents from play or war.  No scabbard.
