Special Note Concerning Prices Seen Below:
Most prices seen reflect actual sale results from this website.
Prices seen
span a long time and may not reflect current values. Some are selling
for more, many now sell for less.
On other pieces you will see no price, or a price range,
with or without an explanation. The reasons for that are discussed on the FAQ page.

W. F. & John Barnes Foot Powered Velocipede Shaper / Former
The Barnes shaper
/ former is one of the harder to find of all the many different foot powered
machines that this famous company from Rockford Ill. put out. They
were in business roughly from the 1870's to the 1920's. From visiting some informational sites I have figured out that
this is a second model using the flat drive belt with holes as
opposed to the earlier design using round belts.
It is marked with the Barnes name and 2 patent dates on the frame. The table is
original and marked 7635. I saw one site that had a chart to date it
from that number but could not find it
the next time I looked. Here is the address to another
site that has a pretty complete history of the machine and its
development.
http://www.footpoweredmachinery.com
The condition is nice. I see no
casting problems or cracks. The table is original and marked 7635. The original belt is OK.
The seat is damage free. It spins freely. One of the ideas with these
is that they could be run in either direction to help with working with the
grain. There is just one cutter. I can break it down and box it, but
imagine it is going to be several hundred unless you the buyer are here on
the west coast.

Barnes
# 3 Woodworking Lathe
I
believe this Barnes Lathe is designated as a #3.
It would have started life out as a foot powered lathe, but the parts,
including the flywheel and foot peddles, to make that happen are
gone. This was changed over to be run electrically sometime in the
past. A new motor will need to be adapted as there is nothing here to
facilitate
that at present either.
What is here is pretty nice. The wood
rails are original, straight, not all beat up and nice. They are stamped with the serial #
xxxx The original tailstock is nice as is the headstock. There is also
homemade gizmo for doing round work like posts or baseball bats that would
serve to hold the work steady in the middle. It seems well made and
suitable for the job. There are several tool steady
rests from 6" to 3' included as well.
It can be picked up here in CA, or I can deliver it up and down the
west coast for a small fee. Delivery to other places will be at cost through a shipping company.

Millers Falls "Companion" Combination Treadle Lathe & Jig Saw This Millers Falls
"Companion" Treadle Lathe with Scroll Saw Lathe was first introduced in 1885 and was not offered after 1922.
The black japanning / paint and red detailing are original and in very good condition. Everything operates as would be expected.
Lathe measures 26 3/4 wide,
17 1/2 deep and 31 3/4 in height. From ads its capacity for
turning is 16". It was aimed at the youth market. The scroll saw is 7 3/4 wide, 25 deep and 14 in height.
Includes two head stocks, the large tool rest and a small one. It
has a great look, and will be a welcome addition to the collection. Fine . . . . . . $495.00 SOLD!!
Foot Powered
Grinder Polishing Machine I
am not sure
who made this. It is bigger and heavier duty than typical. The
peddle has a logo I do not recognize and it is also marked #2 in the
casting.
The condition is nice. There is one casting repair
in the peddle area. It is period, solid and well done . Note the
design of the bearings for both axles. Built to last. I imagine
any number of different machines could be driven by this as the grinder
present is simply screwed down and there are other holes for the belt as if
there was something else mounted at one time.

Braunsdorf - Mueller Circular Miter Saw aka - Dorn Patent Mitre Saw
This unusual circular, revolving miter saw is marked Braunsdorf - Mueller and was patented by a fellow
named Dorn. You can read all about this type of circular miter saw and see other examples and ads for them by running those names in Google searches.
The basic device is in nice overall condition w/ no casting problems or breaks. It has been tastefully cleaned.
There is no saw but I believe most any well known makers miter saw would fit, be
it Disston, Millers Falls, Langdon, Atkins or whatever.
There is a small curved piece of metal that acts like a guide for the circular motion
missing from one track underneath. I put a washer there that serves the purpose for now.
It missing does not affect the look or use and would be an easy fix.
Note it has two different depth stops or fences. Also note
that the large fences operates independently of each other. There are numbered increment stamps to set
the fences that are readable on the base as well. Different & Rare!!

Goodell Pratt Peddle
Lathe / Grinder / Drill
This treadle / pedal lathe / grinder / drill is in very nice condition and looks to be all
original. The tool rest, outboard grinder
and drilling attachment are present. Take a look at all the pics.
This style lathe was offered for a number of years and by different outfits
over that period. It was a popular item, and well received despite its
small size and limited capacity. Fine .
. . . .$495.00 SOLD!!
Barnes
#6 Scroll Saw The
operation of this model is different from most of those encountered in that
it derives its power from a small round leather belt and pulley system instead of
the springy wooden arms which are typical on these saws. This example is in
very nice condition and has no major casting problems or breaks. There is
still considerable pin striping on the body, and it displays very nicely.
Good . . . . . . $695.00
SOLD
H. M. Quackenbush of Herkimer NY Pedal Powered Wood Lathe
The overall condition of this rare cast iron
pedal lathe is very nice.
Note the patented main chuck in one of the pics. It is about 26"
between centers and a bit over 3" from center to bed. There are two different lathe rests and
a couple choices for the tail stock. There is an assortment of additional
tooling stored in the 2 drawers that have been added below the original
wooden top. There is no belt but I see no reason it would not work and I see
no casting cracks or other damage. It is smaller than a Barnes, but bigger, nicer, and better
built than other smaller lathes like the New Rodgers or Millers Falls Lathes of the period.
The flywheel must weigh close to 50 lbs. Please check all the pics.
There is a lot of info on H. M. Quackenbush the inventor / maker of this lathe on the internet. There is a history about him and the company at Wikipedia. I learned there
he was most famous for his spring loaded nutcracker and the line of BB guns and rimfire guns he produced. There is some info on the lathe that can be found including catalog
entries in online vintage catalog reprints for different models he made. There is also and entry and images of a similar lathe on the site www.vintagemachinery.org
That info notes that Ken Cope could not find an example to put in his book on antique tools. Very Nice!!

Barnes #3 Pedal Powered Antique 5'
Lathe This is a super nice example of Barnes's
largest and most popular pedal powered lathe. Over the years it was offered
in several different configurations, with this being the final version. Barnes
stopped production of these in the late 20's due to a number of considerations including
the depression, and the fact that electricity was becoming available in remote places.
They came in several lengths with this being the 5' model. The condition of
the working parts is excellent, tight and ready to again perform any lathe related
task given to it. All parts are original except for the rod to hold the seat
up, and there is one small weld repair to the butterfly shaped bracket that holds
the main shaft to the leg assembly. The belt will need to be replaced but
is whole for the moment. The head stock and tailstock show little signs of
wear or even use and are tight and nice. The tool rest which is the larger
version is nice as well. These are not found very often, and the condition
and functionality is great.

Patent Shipman Scrollsaw /
Jigsaw
This is a neat looking pedal powered jigsaw I have never seen before, and would
not expect to see in such nice condition. It has an almost shaker look and
feel to it being made almost entirely of wood, and having such graceful lines.
Mr. Shipman pulled the
patent #
183,029 in
1876, and resided in Rochester NY, and if I am not mistaken there was a
Shaker colony up that way back when. This was bought here on the west
coast near Reading Ca. years ago. The condition is such that I doubt
it was ever used. It has been sitting on display for the last 20-30
years, and is now being offered for sale for the first time in that time.
A super piece!!
1876 Patent Jigsaw . . . . . . . $150.00 SOLD!
Levin
Jeweler's Lathe with Collets and Accessories
Everything in the first pic is included as one lot and as is.
I took individual pics so you could determine what is what and see details as I do not know what to call half of it. Any questions are going to have to be pretty general as I know little about the details with this. All of what you see
came as one lot and has been sitting on a shelf in one box for about 20 years. There was some surface rust on some pieces
which I cleaned off with a soft wire wheel.
There are over 40 collets. All are marked Levin. In the last two pics I separated them into those with fractional sizes and those
with #'s are in front. I noted that there are several the same size and there are 6 of one size grouped in the second row in the last pic.
I am not going to list off the sizes individually.
I got all of the motions freed up and moving smoothly on the other parts. Some were frozen or very stiff. Note that the tail stock has a
shim on the sole. The draw action works smoothly and I feel no slop in it or the tail stocks. Likewise I see or feel nothing wrong with other
things that should move.
Good . . . . . . $695.00 SOLD
Lathe
Attachment for Millers Falls Lester Scroll Saw At
least that is what the collector identified it as. Very well
made, and will clean up to be a great addition to that saw you have. Unusual & Nice!!

Chicago
Watch Tool Co. No. 5 Foot Wheel for Watchmaker Lathe or Dental Drill
This antique cast iron foot powered flywheel was designed to power a
watchmakers lathe as typically seen set up in a watchmakers bench.
I have also seen them used to power dental tools. I found an
illustration in a reprint Chicago Watch Tool Co. catalog that gave the model #
of No. 5. this style.
Made to drive a single 1" - 1.5" leather belt.
The inscription cast into the frame reads
"CHICAGO WATCH TOOL CO." The most unusual thing about this flywheel is that it has
a pendulum drive. The user simply rocks his foot back and forth and a mechanism not unlike that
of a steam engine connecting rod drives the wheel. The cast iron wheel
is 21" dia. The operation with nothing hooked up is almost
effortless. It has a great look.
Fine . . . . . . $295.00

Marshall
Jeweler's Lathe with Collets and Accessories
This entire Jeweler's or Watchmakers
Lathe setup appears to be in very nice condition. Jeweler's or Watchmakers
lathes are typically pretty easy to find, it is the accessories that can be elusive
and cost a small fortune. This one comes with about everything you would need
to have a complete and working setup. The motor is there and running,
it has a tool rest, the head, the tailstock, a three jaw chuck, a couple other chucks
or faceplates mounted down below, a cross feed, approx 60 collets and a drawer full
of misc parts and accessories. Everything appears to be running smoothly with
no apparent damage or problems that you need to hear about. Most of the collets
I looked at are marked Peerless and are in excellent condition with no signs of
rust or excessive use. All in all a very nice set-up, and if you are
looking for a complete and working setup to start a shop or add to the existing
shop you need look no further.

Small
Treadle Powered Lathe This small lathe
is in very nice condition, and there are no casting breaks in the frame or foot
pedal. It is unmarked as to manufacturer, but is typical of the many different
styles that were available back near the turn of the last century.

Star
Pedal Powered Jigsaw Star Jigsaw has been restored.
It looks pretty good and seems to be operable. I believe the table has
been recast / replaced. It has a lip at the edge and so might be right and
just buffed up for the restoration. Note that under the arm there is a tube
and rod affair. This looks to be a recreation to represent what i assume was
a blower to blow the dust from the work. The rest of this saw looks great
and it is a very graphic and showy piece with its flared leg design and paint decoration.
There is patent info up near the top, and a lot of original paint and decoration
remain there.
Good . . . . $495.00 SOLD
Lathe
/ Jigsaw Combination This has been restored as well. It too seems
to be in operating condition, and the unusual little lather attached up front looks
original and operational as well. It will need a belt to make it work though.
The foot pedal looks to be a later wooden replacement. The tool box attached
to the frame does not look original to me. I believe the table may be a replacement
as well.
Good . . . . . $395.00

seems to be operable. It seems to just need a cleaning and to be tightened
up, or bolted down.

Barnes
Velocipede #2 Jigsaw This pedal powered
Barnes jigsaw has been sitting on the same shelf for over 20 years. It was
repainted and restored when bought, and has sat idly waiting for its time
to come. The shelf is about 8' up in the air so it was a bit difficult to
get any real good shots. I could not see any repairs or evidence of welding,
but could not get all the way around it. Both the buyer (a collector), and
seller (another collector), were old time tool collectors, and any major mechanical
defects would have been addressed before raising it to this resting place.
These Barnes Velocipede model jigsaws are becoming very hard to find
these days. The price assumes there is nothing materially wrong, and if truly
interested I can give you more detailed info.
Good . . . . . . $1295.00 SOLD
Barnes
#7 Pedal Jigsaw This pedal powered Barnes
jigsaw is a bit less complex than the Velocipede offered above and was the more
common model sold as it was less expensive. This saw needs a bit of restoration
and reassembly. The original top needs to be glued back up, the belt is missing
and the rod from the pedal needs to be replaced.
There is lots of original paint and
decoration left, and the previous owner has applied a coat of clear lacquer or the
like to protect it. This one will make a fine user with a little effort.
Good . . . . . . $495.00 SOLD
Challenge
Jigsaw This
Challenge Jigsaw by Seneca Falls Mfg. Co of NY has been
partially restored. It looks pretty good and seems to be operable but not
all is correct or original. I believe the
table has been recast / replaced. It has casting ribs on the bottom and a
lip at the edge and so might be right and just buffed up for the restoration.
One of the foot peddles has a break in it, and the entire bracket affair to hold
it in place looks to be made up. The rest of this saw looks great and it is
a very graphic and showy piece with its flared leg design and paint decoration.
There is patent info up near the top, and a lot of original paint and decoration
remain there.
Challenge Jigsaw . . . . . . . $300.00 SOLD!

Patternmakers Vice
This is the large size vice that these folks produced, and it has the ability to
hold just about anything, in any position that you could stick in it. Everything
is here including the angle plate, the adjusting rod and the bracket for it.
This vice is NOS as in never been used and has just some minor spots of rust on
the bar from storage. The jaws still have the original grease on them.
The handle and the rod are still in their original paper wrappings taped together.
There is nothing about this one that you will not like.

Patent Lever Action Quick Vise This is an
unusual quick action vise that you do not see very often especially in this

present and OK. The jaw is not spring loaded / operated.

Emmert Turtle Back Pattern Makers Vise
It look OK, but has a few issues and is being sold AS - Is for Parts or restoration. First off it has the tilt bracket,
but it has been brazed. (see pic) The inner jaw shows an area where it has been repaired along one edge. The inner face looks fine and is
smooth, but you can see evidence of the weld / repair on the outside. (see pics). After you take off the turtle back cover you can see broken
parts there as well. I am not sure what this part is called, or if the break would affect usage. Again, see the pics. If this does not sell
as a unit I will be breaking it down and selling it piece by piece later on.

Wilder
Model 8 - 800 "ALL SHAPES" Bench Vise
A rare & unusual vise in nice original condition.
Its claim to fame is the 3 piece jaw design where on one side are two
rotating oblong and sloped jaws that have the ability to hold most any
shape object securely against a typical straight jaw. The straight jaw measures 3" across.
There are some file cuts across the top faces of the jaws that look like
layout lines they are so precise. They can be dressed out or left as they
will not affect use.
Perfect for the gunsmith, machinist,
model maker, pattern maker, jeweler, hobbyist,
etc. The label on the side indicates a patent is
pending. I read, but could not find a reference to these being
offered in Popular Science magazine back in the late 50's. I saw
another reference that said there was a design patent D187553 - Filed May 15, 1958.Good + . . . . . $695.00

Wodack
Electric Hand Saw Chicago Ill. There is
little info to be found on this early wormdrive skilsaw online. There
is a you-tube video of one running, and they refer to it as the "Junior".
I think Beastie would be more appropriate. I did read that Dewalt
bought them out. The ID tag has a wealth of info stamped on it.
The capacity was over 4" meaning it has a 10" blade in it. It was made
by Wodack Electric Tool Corporation and was distributed exclusively by F. L.
Rogers of Chicago / New York.
It is being sold as is. No guarantees or
warranties of any sort.
It does run. I plugged it in even with that funky cord. It about
jumped off the table. The switch is not working. It is in direct
drive. Be forewarned. It sounded a
bit archy but did run. Note there is no safety guard. What you
see is what you get. A great addition to the next hot collector group
- - early dangerous electric tools. Different!!
