koffee_krush2.jpg (27102 bytes)Simmons Hardware Co. St Louis MO Koffee Krusher #2 Size Coffee Mill   This is a super rare and in super condition vintage coffee grinder / mill that was produced for the Simmons Hardware Co. of St. Louis, MO near the turn of the last century.  Their logo was a pair of KK's and the name Keen Kutter, thus explaining the name Koffee Krusher cast into the wheels of this coffee mill.  Simmons Hdwe. Co. was a famous hardware store, and their line of products have become quite collectible, and the rare pieces that they produced bring respectable amounts these days.  This piece is unusual, and unlike a lot of stuff that comes out of the Midwest it is in super condition.  I remember the first one of these I saw go on the internet a few years back.  The seller did not know what the initials meant and never mentioned the name Keen Kutter or Simmons in the ad.  There was next to no bidding and as I waited for the clock to run down my computer disconnected and I missed the chance to bid.  It sold for a pittance.

Koffee Krusher #12 (2) Size Double Wheel Coffee MillThe Koffee Krusher #12 (2) Size Double Wheel Coffee Mill by Simmons Hardware / Keen Kutter Brand in BLUE  This is a very rare coffee mill.  I know of one other that sold at the famous Simmons Auction Co. bi-annual THCKK specialty antique hardware store and advertising auction a couple years ago that was the same size as this.   That example brought $4000+ but I was not there to witness that and do not know what condition it was in or even what color it was.  In any case blue is the rarest of colors for any coffee mill by any maker and especially so for this Keen Kutter model put out by Simmons Hardware in St Louis.

Simmons Hardware. Co., if you are not familiar with them or their style,  they  were  more a distributor and marketer than actual producer of the products they sold---the hardware and houseware WalMart of their day if you will.  They were masters of their game in their times and were hugely successful at first in their original location, and then spreading throughout the country marketing their wares.  Most times they jobbed out the production of the wares to different high quality manufacturers and then applied their name and used their reputation and marketing skills to sell the product.  That is interesting to note in this case, as different parts of this mill, and the other one that I have, display characteristics of mills from more than one maker.  As an example, the wheel layout and design are by Enterprise, but the ball bearing feature on the main shaft is a feature typically associated with  Landers, Frary, and Clark, another famous producer of quality cast iron products during the 19th century.  It seems as though they were contracting out to different companies and then assembling the machines themselves.  Probably as another cost cutting measure to keep an individual company from charging them too much.

They did similar things with other products, first ordering it from one manufacturer and then switching to another, but always keeping the Simmons name and the double K logo.  This mill is in very nice overall condition.  It is faded somewhat from exposure to sunlight, and the front knob is missing, but otherwise it is complete, damage free and a rare and desirable piece for collectors from several categories to find.

Landers,
Frary, Clark #20 1/2 Cast Iron Coffee MillLanders, Frary, &Clark #20 1/2 Cast Iron Coffee Mill  This super condition coffee grinder is still sporting nearly 100% of its two-tone original Black and White finish.  This famous and well respected company put out a well finished and highly detailed series of coffee mills and in their quest for market share with Enterprise and other makers of quality cast iron products back near the turn of the last century.  They went the extra mile with details like ball bearing wheels and varying paint schemes to entice the buyer to purchase their version.  This model has the extra bonus of the nickel plated hopper that is an exceedingly rare find in today's marketplace.   I have seen these in a number of different paint schemes and they really do stand out from the typical red that most Enterprises or Parker Mills came in.  The internals are here as well, and it does a real nice job grinding coffee as well.  A super coffee mill in rarely seen model and super condition to boot!!

Landers,
Frary, Clark #20 Coffee MillLanders Frary & Clark #20 Coffee Mill  The condition of this all cast iron coffee mill is superb.  It is one of the hardest to find and most desirable of all small coffee mills that there is.  It has great form and eye appeal and will be a welcome addition to the decor or collection.  If you are only going to have one, this is it.  You will never find one in nicer condition!!

National #2 Size Coffee MillNational #2 Size Coffee Mill  The condition of this rare cast iron coffee mill is superb.  It is one of the hardest to find and most desirable of all small coffee mills that there is.  The National has great form and eye appeal with its angular body shape and decoration scheme.  This mill will be a welcome addition to the decor or collection.  If you are only going to have one, this is it.  You will never find one in nicer condition!!

National Specialty Mfg. Co Philadelphia #2 Size Coffee Mill / GrinderNational Specialty Mfg. Co. Philadelphia #2 Size Coffee Mill / Grinder   This #2 size coffee mill was made by National Specialty Manufacturing Co. of Philadelphia PA.   This make coffee mill is far rarer than similar size mills by other makers. It has two very distinctive features with the 8 sided shape of the casting for the body, and the grind adjuster being lever actuated and controlled by a thumbscrew in the body below the shaft on the side.  Both of these features are a unique design.

This number 2 size National coffee mill stands just over 12 inches tall and has 9" diameter wheels. The overall condition is very nice. There is minimal wear to the decals or original paint on the body of the grinder.  The front of the proper drawer was repainted and is a very good match.. It is a bit dirty from use, and I think looks better this way than cleaned with the resulting loss that almost always happens to the decals and gold highlights. It is the perfect size for display in the country kitchen or other settings and will make for a great addition to any collection.  Nice!!

parker202.jpg (21654 bytes)Chas. Parker 202 Coffee Grinder  We started buying antique coffee grinders / mills a few years ago--- # 2's, wall-mounts, big ones, lap models, etc. and more by luck than by really knowing anything we managed to acquire and keep a few really nice ones.  Back then Parkers were second rate and the rage was over Enterprise grinders.  This Parker 202 struck us as being unusual in that it looked like a floor model grinder, or larger countertop model in design, but it is really the size of a No. 2 with just 8 1/2" wheels.  Also the high-top sliding domed lid is a different design than commonly seen.  We've heard there are only a couple known and we would be curious to hear if there are any others out there.

park_nick_hop1.jpg (19572 bytes)Chas. Parker Meriden Conn. #250 Coffee Mill  It would be hard for anyone to find fault with the condition of this spectacular piece as it is simply superb.  This coffee mill came to us here in California a few years ago at one of the few remaining shows that we bother going to anymore.  It is the type of find that makes you drive 3 or more hours and spend lots of money on expenses even though you know in your heart that you will probably come home empty.  We have a similar Enterprise grinder with a nickeled hopper, but it is much smaller and no where near as graphic or interesting as this one is.  When we first started buying grinders, it seemed that Enterprise grinders were all the rage, and that they would bring far more than their off brand counterparts.  That trend seems to have lessened, and now I think people have begun to realize that these Parkers and some others are far less common than the Enterprise models.  In addition to coffee grinders / mills like this, Parker made a host of other cast iron products and hardware, as well as a superior line of firearms and they had a reputation for always putting forth a quality product.  They certainly did not skimp or hold back on this piece.

Landers,
Frary & Clark #20 Coffee MillLanders, Frary & Clark #20 Cast Iron Coffee Mill  Landers, Frary & Clark is a well known name to coffee mill / grinder and kitchen antiques collectors.  Their product line ranged from such things as eggbeaters to toasters and just about anything else kitchen or household related.

This antique coffee grinder is an example from their great line of cast iron and patented mechanical household devices and is one of the nicest made and well engineered example coffee mills any maker put out.  It had to be to compete with the other big names like Charles Parker, Enterprise, National, E. C. Simmons or Keen Kutter and more.

This #2 size cast iron coffee grinder features a cast iron body and 8 1/2" Dia. wheels.  It is mounted on the original wood base, and the drawer is original.  The lid is good and that is the only area where there is any finish missing..  The grinding plates are present, and sharp.  The fine adjust screw is here, and functions properly.  The original paint is approx 95% or better and the decals for the most part bright, complete and much nicer than one would expect for a near 100 year old coffee mill.

One of LF&C upgraded features for their line of coffee mills is the unusual feature of ball bearings at the end of the main axle against the wheels to ensure near effortless operation.  It was a nice gesture, very visible, and I am sure a great advertising and marketing feature.  One might wonder though why the ball bearings or any bearing were not incorporated at the actual point where the most wear would occur, being where axle meets the body, but not to worry, there is no wear and this one runs tight and smooth with no wobble or looseness, and the ball bearings still look good.  Marketing.

This coffee mill is in super condition and will make for a great display piece, or a good user.  It really is true that ground as opposed to cut coffee has a different and better flavor.  Try it!!

Landers, Frary & Clark #20 Cast Iron Coffee MillLanders, Frary & Clark #20 Cast Iron Coffee Mill  Landers, Frary & Clark mills came in a variety of color combinations.  All are getting hard to find.  Even harder is finding them in n8ice condition.  They were a well made mill and got used.

The two tone paint is original paint is approx 80% or better and the decals for the most part bright, complete and much nicer than one would expect for a near 100 year old coffee mill. These two tone mills are much harder to find than the solid color ones.

This coffee mill is in nice condition and will make for a great display piece, or a good user.  It really is true that ground as opposed to cut coffee has a different and better flavor.  Try it!!

Chas. Parker #3000 Coffee GrinderChas. Parker #3000 Coffee Grinder  Parker Mills are much harder to find than either Enterprises or Lander Frary & Clark.  They are a superior product, but I think Parker was more focused on their line of guns than the manufacture of nice Coffee Mills.    This one is in nice condition, complete, correct w/ a wooden drawer in this size, and grinds coffee like a charm.

Good + . . . . .$1295.00         SOLD!

riverside1.jpg (31204 bytes)The Riverside #7 Size Double Wheel Coffee Mill  This is a very rare coffee mill that is in super condition.  McMillan barely makes mention of it in his exhaustive book on the subject of coffee mills, and there is not one pictured.   From the construction details it appears that Enterprise may have made it, but  the wheels, which measure about 17" in diameter, are a completely different casting.  It is marked "Riverside Manufacturing Co. New York Trojan" in bold letters.  It retains 90% or more of the deep red finish, and the paint on the wheels is dirty but still near perfect.  This unusual coffee grinder is far rarer than any Enterprise or Parker coffee mill in the same size or configuration and it will be a long time before you will ever see another in anything close to as nice condition.

Good + . . . . $2495.00        SOLD!

Keen Kutter Simmons Hardware Koffee Krusher #12 Coffee Mill / GrinderKeen Kutter Simmons Hardware Koffee Krusher #12 Coffee Mill / Grinder   This is a very rare coffee mill.
