TSM / Toy
Treadle Swewing Machines
This.
American
Girl Toy Sewing Machine / TSM in Mission Oak Style Treadle Stand
This style TSM with treadle base dates from the correct period, being the
1920s or so. The base can also be found with Stitchwell machine or the
many other names that machine can be found with. It is in very nice
overall condition.
Very nice!! Fine . . . . . . . $895.00 SOLD!!
Grain Toy Sewing Machine / TSM in Unusual
Consul / Console Cabinet This
is a rare variation of a small antique English made cast iron toy sewing machine. The condition is excellent and it is
all original. While typical Grain TSM's are pretty common, only a
handful of this variation in the consul or console table with extension side
table tops have ever turned
up. It is one we have never had before nor have we seen one in some of the major
collections we have viewed.
Different, RARE, and very nice!!
Fine . . . . . . . $595.00
SOLD!!
Cupid
Toy Treadle Sewing Machine There are about
a dozen variations or different toy treadle sewing machines, both American and
European that can be found. All are pretty rare and were only made in
small numbers. The American made Cupid ranks right up there with the
hardest to find from any location.
This example is in super condition.
The decals are some of the best and brightest and most detailed that can be found on any toy
treadle sewing machine. The maker was the Cupid Mfg. Co. and was based
in Chicago. From the look and style I assume these are from
shortly after the turn of the century. Glenda Thomas shows several in her
second book from some large collections, none with as nice decals as this
and has a bit more info on the company and some of their advertising.
A
very nice example that will be sure to be a highlight of any collection.
Good + . . . . . $3250.00 SOLD!!!
Eldredgette Child-Size Antique Toy Treadle Sewing Machine
This small toy treadle sewing machine was produced by the
National Sewing Machine Co. of Belvedere IL. They were the outfit that also made the
line of cast iron machines named Stitchwell that can be found. These
machines date from just after WWI and into the 20's. I assume it was
the Great Depression that put an end to their manufacture.
Both
the Stitchwell, and the Eldredgette are found on this Mission Oak style
wood stand. I assume that you can also find other similar machines by this
same firm, like the Wee, American Girl, and all the other Stitchwell look
a-likes that are around but I have never seen or had any of these.
The condition of the machine is very nice. The name decal is super and
the paint has just a few minor chips. The top has a ruler decal on the
front edge and this shows some wear, so we know that this was a played with
and loved toy. A nice example of a hard to find sewing machine, in
nice condition. Good + . . . . . $1250.00 SOLD!!!
Ideal Child-Size Antique Toy Treadle Sewing Machine
The "Ideal Toy Treadle Sewing Machine is a very nice
piece of 19th century Americana.
In Glenda Thomas's first book on toy
and miniature sewing machines she has one pictured and has a lot of info
about the two different manufacturers having made these. Her
research also reveals that well known
outfits like Marshall Fields of Chicago were distributers. The ads
she cites are from the late 1890's and include one from the Youths
Companion, and the Ladies Home Journal. She even pictures one of these
ads in the back of the book and it shows that this machine sold for the
whopping sum of $5.00 when it was first offered.
The condition is
very nice. There is not a lot of decoration, but there never was.
This machine was marketed as not just a toy to be played with, but also a a
machine to be used by not only the child, but the mom, or even the servant.
It was a very utilitarian machine and offered that way. The stand is very nicely done, with
the name Ideal in cast out or cut out letters like one finds in certain wrenches or
other pieces of decorative cast iron from this era. The treadle is especially well done and
rivals those in detail and finish found on real treadles from this era.
Good + . . . . . $1850.00 SOLD!!!
Ruth
Toy Treadle Sewing Machine / TSM The Ruth
TSM is German made, and hard enough to find in its own right. We have never
had it before as a treadle. The treadle base here looks to be a craftsman
made affair. There is a Ruth treadle machine with a similar base that is
presented as original shown in the Thomas' book on page 15. I believe that
this is a well done copy of that, but it too might be original. It is very
nicely done.
The condition of the machine is very nice with nearly
100% of the original paint and decal decorations remaining. It is set up
for a smaller child than the others on this page and only stands a bit over
2 feet tall. A wonderful little machine / treadle toy that will display
very nicely!
Good + . . . . . $450.00 SOLD!!!
"Princess"
Toy Treadle Sewing Machine / TSM There
is info about this machine cast into the sides of the stand and stamped
into the stitch plate. It is by the Decker Mfg. Co. Ltd of Detroit,
Mich. It is very similar in look and design to the Ideal treadle, and
the Little Tot toy treadles that we have had and sold in the past.
The
makers of these toy treadles went the extra mile for the most part making
toy treadles to look and act just like Mom's treadle, just scaled down a bit
to fit the smaller user. This one even has a provision for the base to be
adjustable for different size or growing little girls as the pedal portion
can be raised or lowered. Note also that the main parts are all cast, and
that the push rods and lever arms are not stamped metal as found on most
lesser toys from the same era.
The condition of this example is very
nice. It looks like the base may have been repainted, but I see no signs of
repairs. The head is very nice with 90% or more of the original paint and
decoration.
Good + . . . . . $2750.00 SOLD!!!
Cupid Toy Treadle Sewing Machine / TSM There are about a dozen variations

Muller
18
Toy Treadle Sewing Machine / TSM w/ Dome Top
The head of this child size treadle sewing machine looks like and is the
same size as a Muller #12 sewing machine, but the solid cast iron base of the machine is quite
different and when found on a treadle stand this machine becomes a #18 according to the
references I have.
The condition is super. The protective
decorated tin dome top shown in the other pictures did a great job of protecting the original
finish and decorations on the machine. They are near perfect. There are no cracks or repairs,
and the pedal has the proper M cast into it. It operates smoothly.
Some special little girl must have been very happy and loved this when given it the first time
close to 100 years ago on a special occasion. It will look great as a
display piece and will be a highlight of most any collection of children's
toys or sewing machines. A rare opportunity!
Good + . . . . . $2750.00 SOLD!!!
"Busy Bee" Toy Treadle Sewing Machine / TSM
This style child size toy treadle sewing machine could be referred to
as Mission or Arts and Crafts style with its distinctive wood base made in that classic style.
These machines date from near the 1920's which is the correct era for that
style base. These wooden treadle stands can be found with
several other heads on them besides those of the Stitchwell family which
were made by the National Sewing Machine Co. of Belvedere, IL. For instance you
can also find the American Girl TSM, the Eldredgette and the Damascus on
similar stands, each
of which were also made by
National.
We have an F & W Automatic on this same style base as well.
It looks proper, and perhaps that can be explained as both companies were
based in the same area of the country and used the same manufacturer, or
perhaps that the bases were offered as an accessory to fit other model machines by the maker. I do not know for sure.
The condition of this example is very nice.
They are getting hard to find, and make for a great accent piece and display
nicely in a number of settings.
Good + . . . . . $850.00 SOLD!!!
F & W Automatic
Toy Treadle Sewing Machine / TSM We have
had a number of the F & W Automatic sewing machines over the years. These
sewing machines
were produced by Foley & Williams, an outfit that hailed from Chicago,
IL.
These sewing machines were offered for a
considerable sum of money compared to other small machines from the same
era and are oftentimes found in their original boxes with pricing info stenciled onto the box. All that I can remember have the
grooved wheel provision to allow it to be set up as a treadle, but this is
the first one actually set up as a treadle that I have run across. The
treadle base is essentially the same as the one under the Stitchwell / Busy
Bee I have listed above.
The condition of this toy treadle
sewing machine is very nice.It is much more substantially made than the typical toy sewing machine from this era, and
I
am sure that explains why it was offered for more. Note that the sewing
arms are made of cast iron as opposed to just flat steel stock like that
which is found on
most other toys from this era. The paint and decorations are in pretty
good condition, and this should be considered a hard to find machine set up
in this fashion.
Good + . . . . . $1450.00 SOLD!!!
Muller #16
Toy Treadle Sewing Machine / TSM The condition of this
Muller 16 Treadle Sewing Machine is very nice. It is smaller than
the Muller 18. The condition of the sewing head is super. The
decoration is near 100%. The finish on the table is original. The wood
grain dome top is nice with just one small dent. The one apology
on this unusual child's treadle is that one of the feet on the base was
broken off about 2" up the leg. It has been repaired and is
invisible
unless told or shown. It will not be noticeable when on display.
Good + . . . . . $2750.00 SOLD!!!
Daisy
Toy Treadle Sewing Machine / TSM The condition of this
Daisy Toy Treadle Sewing Machine is very nice. It is smaller than
most other toy treadles in scale and is very cute. Look at the
condition and detail of the original paint on the decorative cast iron
stand. The Daisy in the end panels is great. I have never seen
one this nice. The condition of the sewing head is good. There
is still
decoration visible on the painted surfaces. The sew plate is
tarnished, but the patent info and manufacturers info there is still
readable. This area is not pitted or rusty. The finish on the table
looks to be original and nice. The one apology
on this unusual child's treadle is that the glue joints on both the drawer
and wooden bonnet / top have failed. This would be a pretty straight
forward fix as all the parts are present, it just needs to be properly
clamped and glued.
Good + . . . . . $2950.00 SOLD!!!
American
Patented Sewing Machines
This.
Foley
& Williams Midget Toy Sewing Machine / TSM in Unusual Copper Flash Finish This
is a rare variation of a hard to find small antique toy sewing machine. The condition is excellent and it is in the original box. The one apology is the
missing spool pin which is an easy fix. The copper flash finish this machine is finished in is original and a rare variant. It dates from
right around the turn of the century give or take a few years.
To put the finish of this machine into some perspective, 95% or so of these machines are found decorated with the typical
vine and berry decals one usually sees. A quick look at ebay past results shows a 1/2 dozen or more all in that finish. A few more are found with a much harder to find Cali
Lily type decal finish. One of those machines can be seen in the past sale archives of TSM machines we have sold on
our sister website www.AntiqBuyer.com. I have only seen a couple machines in that Cali Lily finish and probably 100 or more of the standard vine & berry decoration. This is the only
example with this copper flash finish I have ever seen or had. Different and nice!! Fine . . . . . . . $395.00

"Puppy' Antique
Japanese TSM / Toy Sewing Machine in Domed
Wood Case This interesting TSM is marked Deluxe Puppy - Puppy Sewing Machine Co. - Made in Japan.
The full body is cast iron. The paint and decoration are incredible!!! The dome lid and wooden base are very nice as well.
Includes two miniature Japanese Geshia like figurine spools with therfad that are in fine condition. The
original belt was dried out and cracked and has been replaced with a new rubber
belt. The action is good, although stiff, and no one should
be kidding themselves about using it to make doll clothes or other use other
then as a part of the collection or decoration.
Similar machines, obviously made by the same company, but with different names can be found.
There is a similar machine in the archives on our past sales archive website - link here
https://www.AntiqBuyer.com/past-sale-archives/sewing-machines/tin-toy-SM.htm

new switch, and the light is now operational when good contact is achieved.

"The White House"
TSM / Toy Sewing Machine This style
toy sewing machine is usually found marked with the name "Stitchwell". They date from the 20's or
so and were produced by the National Sewing Machine Co. out of Belvedere, IL. They can be found with a number of different names, and we have had a
lot of them over the years, but this is the first marked The White House we have
seen or found.
The National Sewing Machine Co. of Belvidere, Illinois was the brainchild of a fellow
named Barnabas Eldredge. Like other shrewd entrepreneurs of his day, he seemed to catch on to the notion that you could sell more of the same thing
if you marketed that thing with different names and with slight variations in the design.
This idea has lead to a toy sewing machine collector's dream!
The cosmetic condition of this unusual sewing machine is
very good with nearly all the original finish and
floral decoration remaining on the upper portions. The sew plate has been
polished. The other nickeled metal parts are bright and shiny. It has its original needle.Note that
the drive wheel is cast with a groove so this machine could be set up on a
treadle base. The stands this type machine are found on are wooden and
done Mission style. Different, Rare, and Nice!!
Very Good . . . . . . . $225.00
SOLD!
"Pony"
Child Size Antique Sewing Machine The
Pony TSM Sewing Machine is one of the harder to find "Round" TSM / Toy
sewing Machines that was produced back around the turn of the century.
It is thought to have been made by Foley & Williams.
The cosmetic condition of this unusual sewing machine is great with nearly all the original finish and
floral decoration remaining on the upper portions. The sew plate is marked Patented.
The nickeled metal parts are bright and shiny. There are
minor losses to the paint on the wooden base from the spring clamp used to
hold it to the table. This machine can be found with either a round,
or like this with a square base.
In most other round
sewing machines found, like the Triumph or Practical, the upper portion or
body of the sewing machine is made of wood, while this Pony TSM is made of
metal. The Tourist is another rare TSM sewing machine with a more oval
shaped body metal body. This wonderful
example of a toy sewing machine has never been cleaned or re-habbed and is
all original. Different, Rare, and Nice!!
Fine . . . . . . . SOLD!!
Smith
& Egge Peerless Automatic Toy Sewing Machine / TSM The
overall condition is very nice noting some nickel loss on the sew plate. This
sewing machine is one of the many different machines made by the Smith &
Egge Co of Bridgeport Ct. back near the turn of the century. They also
made machines like the Little Comfort, Smith & Egge Automatic, and others.
All sewed a basic one thread chain stitch. The sew plate is
marked with two patent dates. This machine can be found with the name
cast into or as part of the casting near the bottom, or with a small plate
with the name stamped into it.
Different and nice!! Good + . . . . . . . $225.00

Electric
Model 20 Singer
TSM / Toy Sewing Machine
The electric model Singer 20 is a hard to find TSM.
This one is in very nice cosmetic condition. Most are, as I do not
think they actually performed well for the child user, and most were relegated to
the closet for safe keeping. It runs well, and the cord looks to be a
newer replacement. It even has the shield to cover the exposed moving
parts to drive it. It is in nice overall condition. Good + . . . . . . . $195.00
SOLD!
Stitchwell TSM / Toy Sewing Machine
in Box
This cast iron Stitchwell TSM / Toy Sewing Machine is in
very nice condition. The sew plate is marked with the makers name
National Sewing Machine Co. of Belvedere Ill. Complete with box clamp

cast iron. They were well made. Note that this example has a
grooved wheel and could be adapted to a treadle. Nice Good + . . . . . . . $175.00

The
Pony Cast Iron Round Sewing Machine
This small sewing machine at first glance looks
to be the same as the round wooden Triumph-type machines, however the body of
this model is all cast iron, and this version is much harder to find.
It is only the second example I have ever owned---the story of the first one
is good for a laugh. Larry saw it in the window of an antique shop in
Hudson, NY with a price tag of $100 on it. Next to this rare machine was
an ordinary Singer Model 20 with the same price on it. The only problem was
that it was a Monday and the shops were all closed. The next morning I
raced back to the shop to be sure to be there when the doors opened lest someone
else get to it first. I was delayed a bit along the way when I was pulled
over by highway patrol for speeding, and the resulting ticket and hike in my
car insurance ended up costing me quite a bit more than the machine. Regrettably,
I sold that machine to another collector who later had the nerve to complain
to me that it wasn't in quite as good condition as she would have liked it to
be---but she also wouldn't take up my offer to sell it back to me. I guess
the good stuff is worth waiting for because this example came to me complete
with the original box and clamp, and although it cost me substantially more
than the first one I still feel lucky to have had second chance!
Excellent . . . . .$1250.00 SOLD!!
The
Tourist Sewing Machine
This super rare and
super condition sewing machine is the first example of a Tourist we have ever
had the opportunity to own, and it took a complicated and lengthy trade
negotiation to accomplish it. The condition is second to none.

Small
"Linnea" Antique Sewing Machine The "Linnea"
sewing machine
was manufactured in Chicago, Illinois by Bergbom & Roberg and I imagine it must
have been named for the daughter or wife of one of the company's bigwigs!
It is a lovely small handcrank machine that dates from the 1920's, and it is one
that is not very frequently found. The most distinctive feature of this antique
machine is its elegant footed base outfitted with a little wooden and tin drawer
for holding thread and accessories. I have only had this machine twice in
the past, and both times the drawer was either missing or had been re-made.
This example is complete with the original drawer. Overall the condition is
very good, although there is some loss to the gold decals and some have turned silvery
from cleaning. But it still looks great and retains over 80% of it's original
paint and decoration.
Good . . . . .$850.00 SOLD
Spenser Patented Sewing Machine
w/ Original Box
The
Spenser Sewing Machine Co. hailed from Boston, MA and New York, NY.
They referred to this as their "Automatic Hand Sewing Machine". It
carries patent dates from 1900, 1901, and 1902 and is extremely well-made.
Being fairly complex in design, while measuring just 9" tall, it was
obviously meant to pose serious competition to other small sewing machines
of the day. This example is in excellent condition and complete with
its original wooden box. The label on the box proclaims it to be "The
sewing machine for summer sewing. It is just the machine to take to
the seashore, country, or mountains." We have had this machine several
times in the past but this is the first example we have seen with it's
original box. The original clamp is there as well as auxiliary tension
discs, a somewhat tattered instruction sheet, and extra needles. How
often do you see those?? Ads for this machine have been found in old
Harper's magazines and offering it for the price of $10.00 at the same time
that smaller cast iron toy machines cost $5.00 or less, so we can assume
that this would be a far rarer machine than many of those cheaper and more
commonly bought models. A top shelf collector piece!
Excellent . . . . . . .$550.00

French
"Baby" Toy / Travel Size / Child-Size Antique Sewing Machine in Original
Box
This is a very unusual variation. This American Baby sewing machine was
made for export to France, and they made a special box for it, and
instructions in French to accompany it. It is something I have never seen
in over 20 years of dealing in these machines. Highly recommend!

Smith
& Egge Automatic Chain Drive Toy / Travel Size / Child-Size Antique Sewing
Machine in Original Box
Chain drive versions of these small sewing machines are far harder to find than
the standard models. Although the cardboard box has seen better days the
machine itself is nearly pristine. There is patent info on the stitch plate, and
the name on the plaque at the bottom. A nice machine!
Very Good . . . . .$450.00 SOLD!
"Little
Comfort Improved" Toy / Travel Size / Child-Size Antique Sewing Machine w/
Original Box
The "Little Comfort Improved" TSM is a well known early toy or travel size
sewing machine. This one is in its original colorful red cardboard box. It
was made by the Smith & Egge Co. There are several variations or versions
of this machine, including a chain drive model, one with a rounded body,
this square bodied version, and more. From reading the info on this box we
learn that over 50,000 were made. These can be found with different numbers
on the boxes, and some have the price of $2.00 or $2.50 as well.
The condition of this example is super with over 95% of the original finish
intact. The box is pretty nice for something made of cardboard that is over
100 years old. These machines can be found in lesser condition pretty
regularly, but do not turn up in this condition very often. A nice example
to add to the collection.

American Gem Sewing Machine / Toy Sewing Machine / TSM
This is a great looking
and very hard to find antique toy sewing machine / TSM. The overall
condition of this example is very nice.
These machines can also be found marked "Gem", as this one is, or "American Gem".
The cast iron base was designed to resemble a real
treadle sewing machine stand. It is unique among toy sewing machines in this respect, and this design is a favorite with toy sewing machine collectors and collectors of early full-size machines as well.
The black japanned finish is super nice with just minor losses and crazing. The
bird decoration
on the sewing table is unusual and very nice. Over the years we have seen quite a
few of these sewing machines and the decoration on almost all has been
different on each machine, indicating they were hand-done. Some have birds,
others have red, green and gold grape-like vines or yellow daisy decorations.
It is approx 6" across the legs, and stands just 9" tall.
The two references on toy sewing machines picture this
type of sewing machine, but they have no info on the actual maker. The sewing plate on this example is marked "Pat. Apld For".
I would estimate this machine to date from the 1880's or so from the look
and decoration. It sews a simple chain stitch like other early machines
from this era, and a special note should be made that it has oil or
lubrication holes at the important bearing points, a feature that would
indicate this machine was also marketed as a small working machine for
seamstresses and not just a simple toy.
This sewing machine is all-original with no breaks or cracks in the casting and it has not been touched up
or restored. This early toy sewing machine is sure to be a standout in any sewing machine collection,
or a
really fine addition for the early Americana collection! Recommended!!

American Gem Toy Sewing Machine / TSM
This is a great looking, and very hard to find
antique toy sewing machine. It is approx. 6" across the legs,
and stands about 9" tall without the base. The overall condition is very
nice noting some yellowing of the clear coat finish over the daisy
decoration / decals.
The

decoration on almost all has been different on each machine, indicating they
were hand-done. Some have birds, others have red, green and gold grape-like
vines, but this example w/ daisy decoration is certainly one of the nicest
and most elaborate flower motifs we have seen
The American Gem cast iron sewing machine has a interesting design base that
was meant to resemble a real treadle sewing machine stand. It is unique among toy sewing
machines in this respect. This unusual design sewing machine is a
favorite with toy sewing machine collectors and collectors of early
full-size machines as well. The two references on toy sewing machines by
Thomas picture this type of sewing machine, but they have no info on the
maker or location. I once had this machine with the same decoration on
its original base w/ advertising giving the proper name, American B H O
Sewing Machine Co and PA location. You can see that machine in the
sales archives at www.AntiqBuyer.com.
The sew plate on this example is marked "Pat. Apld For". I would estimate this
machine to date from the 1880's or so from the look and decoration. It sews

does have oil or lubrication holes at the important
bearing points, a feature that would indicate this machine was also marketed
as a small working machine for seamstresses and not a simple toy.
These machines are found in two different styles with the other having a speed enhancing second large wheel.

Secor
FAIRY Small Child-Size / Travel Size
Antique Sewing Machine / TSM This
wonderful child size sewing machine was made by the Secor Sewing Machine Co.
of
Bridgeport CT. They were an early manufacturer of both full size and travel
size sewing machines. The small cast iron Fairy sewing machine shown here is in near mint
unused
condition. It is a very rare sewing machine, and especially so in this
condition. Glenda Thomas says it was not sold as a toy, but rather as
a working travel machine in her book on sewing machines.
This rare sewing machine retains well over 90% of its original
varnish like japanned finish on the body. The sewing plate which is
cast iron and part of the main casting still has most of the nickel plating
on it. The original and correct needle is present. The sheath it rides in is
flawless The only place these machines are marked is on the top
of the round cast iron frame with the name spelled out in bold letters
FAIRY.
We have only had this machine a couple times in over 30
years of looking. We have never seen a nicer condition example.

Patent Child-Size / Travel Size
Antique Sewing Machine / TSM This is a
super condition example of this early and rare sewing machine. This was a
later c1870's "Improved" model and the sew plate is stamped with three different
patent dates. I believe that the last one is for the folding spool pin

Spenser
"Automatic Hand Sewing Machine"
The Spenser Sewing Machine comes in a few
different configurations. The patents were taken out in the early 1900's
and it looks like it was meant to be competition for the well known and more
common Wilcox & Gibbs that was all the rage about this time. This is the
larger more complicated model they offered. Ads for it have been found and
they offered it as a real machine in magazines like Harpers for the price of
$10.00 at the same time that smaller cast iron toy machines cost $5.00 or less,
so we can assume that this would be a far rarer machine than many of those
cheaper and more commonly bought models.
There is a lot of
the information about the patents on the stitch plate.
The condition of this machine is excellent with nearly all the
original black paint remaining and no rust or corrosion to the metal parts.

"Spenser" Travel Size
/ Child-Size "TSM" Antique Sewing Machine w/ Speed Enhancer
The Spenser Sewing Machine Co. hailed from Boston, MA and
New York, NY. They referred to this machine as their "Automatic Hand Sewing
Machine". It carries several patent dates from 1900, 1901, and 1902 and is
an extremely well-made little sewing machine. It comes complete with
the rare speed enhancer that was offered as an accessory, and a number of
attachments and original instructions all mounted on boards for display.
We had another of these
in the box, that had phrases like "The sewing machine for summer
sewing. It is just the machine to take to the seashore, country, or
mountains" on the label. Ads for this machine have been found in old
Harper's magazines, where it was offered for the price of $10.00 at the same time
that smaller cast iron toy machines cost $5.00 or less, so we can assume
that this would be a far rarer machine than many of those cheaper and more
commonly bought models. One of the original ads here shows that at one
point they were asking $15.00 for this machine, but that it was now on
sale.
This machine is in fine condition. It has just
minimal wear on the sew plate. Note that there is a second smaller one
on one of the boards. There is minor paint loss to the base where the clamp
would attach it to the table. The sped enhancer makes this run twice
the normal speed A rare machine in exceptional condition A top

Triumph Patented Toy Sewing Machine / TSM The
overall condition is very nice. This scarce toy sewing machine features one of the most unusual and graphic designs
for a sewing machine that was ever thought up! These machines are believed to have been manufactured by the Foley & Williams Co. It dates from around the turn of the century or a bit later. The only mark on it is the stamp Patent on the stitch plate.
The unusual round body is all wood
with a metal backing plate to add strength. The body was designed with a small section of
the frame that could be removed after pulling a pin to allow the fabric to
pass through while sewing. That small piece and original pin are
present. These machines are seldom found and rarely offered for sale, and because of their
age, design and material they are generally found broken, incomplete and in
well worn condition. This examples base has been remade and looks great.
Even the decal is a correct representation. The rest of the
machine is 100% complete with all of it's original parts. The paint
and all other decals are original. You will be proud to display this
fine example along with your other "top-shelf" small sewing machines.

These were marketed as toys, travel sewing machines, and as full use sewing

The
"Pet", a Dome-Top Wooden Case Red Model 20 Look-Alike
They say that copying is the highest form of flattery,
and Singer toy sewing machines were so popular in their day that it is little
wonder that other manufacturers saw the benefit of marketing their own versions
of these highly detailed and realistic little machines. There are a host
of look-alike machines that I would classify as "frequently found"---the English
"Grain" and "Essex" would fall into this category.
Then there are some
that are a bit more "hard to find", such as the Japanese "All" and the "Lead".
The next category up would be examples that are "very hard to find" and in this
category I would put the Australian "Peter Pan" and the American "Pfaff".
And then very occasionally a look-alike machine comes along that deserves to
be given the designation of "extremely hard to find". The "Pet" is one
such example. This is a machine that I have never seen in another collection,
nor is it pictured in any of the TSM books. There is no indication as
to the country of origin, but it is well-made and beautifully designed.
It is a rich and vivid burgundy red color which my pictures almost do not do
justice to. It is mounted on a wooden base with a dome-shaped cover having
the name "Pet" in fancy gold script surrounded by lovely pink roses with golden
leaves. There is also a fancy gold decal with the word "Pet" on the back
side of the machine itself. Perhaps the most unusual and beautiful feature
of all is the embossment of roses and leaves that the end panel sports.
And note the unusual placement there of the thread tensioning device.
This toy sewing machine is in excellent condition overall with just one minor
apology---there was one small spot of rust on the metal stitch plate just to
the front of the seam guide that I have cleaned off and polished. I have
included a picture to show this so you can see that there is still minor evidence
of where that spot was, but overall it does not detract. If you are looking
for an extremely unusual variation of a Singer "look alike" toy sewing machine,
then this one will definitely fit the bill.

Model A Sewing Machine
This is an English design and patented sewing
machine that dates from the 1920's or so. The patent was pulled in
1910, but it is believed it was not produced until after WWI. There
were two different models, the A & B, and since they do not have serial #'s
it is not known how many were produced.
There are a couple sites on
the internet that have a pretty complete history and detail the differences. This example came
out of a collection that was gathered before that info was available as the
owner thought it dated from a much earlier time and included that info on
her neatly written tag you see in the pics. The condition is
exceptional, and the outer protective dome cover is nice as well.It is
a great looking machine with its nickel plating and early single curved arm
design. It will look great in many decors or as part of the early
sewing machine collection.

amazingly tiny bobbin / shuttle. It is a machine of historical importance
as it operates using a distinctly different design principle and is unlike any
others that were being made at the time or have since been manufactured.
These complex sewing devices were only made for a few short years, and there
are several model variations available. This example, the solid wheel
version, is marked "No. 23787 Moldacot Patent Made in Germany".
It retains most of it's nickel finish showing just minor loss here and
there, and it is complete right down to the shuttle and needle. If you

Muller No. 6 Ladies' Sewing Machine
One of the most strikingly beautiful and ornamental
sewing machines ever produced is this elaborately designed Muller No. 6.
The decoration that is cast into the body of this nickel-over-cast iron antique
sewing machine is extremely detailed and is accented with gold wash highlights.
Dating from the late 1800's, this is one of the very few models to use a front
crank mechanism, and the operation actually functions surprisingly smoothly.
This elegant little machine measures just 5 1/2" across the base. Most
likely this sewing machine was marketed to well-to-do ladies of the time as
a "boudoir" or travel machine although it was probably also high on the wish
list of young girls as well.

Muller No. 19 Handcrank Antique Sewing Machine in RED!
The Model 19 is most frequently found in black. It is occasionally
found in blue. But the least frequently found color of all is this, the
red model. These colored examples were apparently made only for export,
so just a relatively few number were produced and fewer still have survived.
In many years of buying, selling and collecting small antique sewing machines
I have owned probably a dozen or more black Muller 19's and only two blue ones---but
this is the very first red Model 19 I have ever had the opportunity to buy,
as they are generally seen only in long-time antique sewing machine collections.
This example was purchased out of a home in Sacramento and the benefits of the
moderate and dry climate can be seen in its condition. The red and blue
Mullers were coated with a clear finish that over the years inevitably tends
to yellow to one degree or another, and I have seen blue models that look more
green than blue because of this. And although this red example shows the
ever slightest change of color I do think it would rate a "very good" on anybody's
condition scale. The decals are bright and colorful and show little to
no wear. The metalwork shows a little oxidation here and there, but overall
the machine displays beautifully.

Hand-Crank Cast Iron Colibri Sewing Machine
This beautiful and elegant antique sewing machine was manufactured by Bremner &
Bruckmann in Germany near the turn of the century. This Colibri should not
be confused with the more commonly found Muller 12. This is a very nice antique
sewing machine that is not typically found in the US. Measuring just under
12" across it is slightly larger than most "toy" machines, and was promoted as a
machine that could be used by adults as well as by children. It is highly
decorated with gold, red and green decals and has a lovely footed base. The
body of the machine is hinged to the base and when you release the screw you can
tilt back the machine to reveal a little storage compartment that would have held
the machine's accessories. This example still retains the seam guide and a
piping guide, as well as a little needle case with two sewing machine needles, and
the original (although brittle and torn) instruction sheet. The condition
of the machine is exceptional. The machine itself is near mint. Even
the outside of the tin domed cover, which is oftentimes found worn or dented, is
very nice.

It is speculated in Glenda Thomas's book on TSM's that
this style sewing machine was produced in the first quarter of the 1900's by

the fiberboard gearing had by using a metal gear as on this example. I am not sure if this was the first and better model, that was later cheapened

who was leery of running their found treasure through an auction. All
parties were happy with the end result. I can and will help you
sell your rare sewing machines.

Decker
Sewing Machine w/ Original Box / Suitcase
This Martin Decker Kipic TSM / Toy Sewing Machine is an unusual
and hard to find toy sewing machine.
They are discussed in Thomas's book and she says they are German and were offered for sale by Pfaff
for Martin Decker.
This is only the second one I have ever seen in person. The head seems to be made of
polished Aluminum, and the base cast iron.
It is a nice design and quite different from many other toys.
The condition is exceptional, and it includes the original suitcase / box.
The Decker is a very unusual antique toy sewing machine, and a must have for
any advanced sewing collection. Fine

Muller
#6 Toy Sewing Machine / TSM in Original Box The
Muller #6 is one of the most strikingly beautiful and ornamental toy size sewing machines produced.
They were first introduced in the 1890's and production ceased with the
start of WWI. The machine is cast iron and the decoration that is cast into the body
is extremely detailed. The sewing machine was then nickel plated and
finished with a gold wash highlights. It gives it a great look.
It is very rare to find them in their original boxes. Few other
machines came in wooden boxes. On the inside of the box lid are paper
instructions for the other front crank sewing machine of the F.W. Muller
line. There is a website that can be found that pictures a couple
other variations of the box. Muller must have used the same box for several of their
models, and they obviously were exporting these sewing machines to all parts
of Europe as well as the US as these instructions are written in Italian!
The Muller 6 is one of the very few model TSMs to use a front crank
mechanism. The operation functions smoothly. This elegant little
machine measures just 5 1/2" across the base. The machine itself retains nearly all of its gold highlights and is extremely bright and shiny. The stitch plate is clearly marked
"Muller 6 Kinder-Nahmaschine". This one is an absolute showpiece!!

Unusual
Small French Lakner Sewing Machine
This diminutive antique sewing machine measures just 6" or so
in length. According to sewing machine collector and author Rita Koym
it was manufactured by a French firm by the name of Lakner. This machine
is nickel plated and the casting is extremely delicate. Some of its unusual
features include a built-in folding clamp, double spool pins, and an extremely
unusual horizontal rather than vertical thread looper on the underside of the
base. The nickel plating is worn off in spots, and the machine could benefit
from a polishing / cleaning, but it is in otherwise very presentable condition!

French
Baby Toy Sewing Machine / TSM This French Toy Sewing Machine / TSM
is a very unusual one to find here in the US. It has a steel top body, and
a heavy cast iron base. This is a very unusual combination. The overall
condition is like new. The is virtually no wear to the paint or decals.
The stitch plate is marked with the name Baby as well as a logo which Thomas
identifies as being by Robert Wybo. This is a pretty hard to find machine
that only turns up occasionally.

highest regard. You are not going to find a nicer example than this,
here or there.

"La Queen" Sewing Machine
with Original Box & Paperwork
This interesting looking miniature sewing machine is marked
"La Queen Brevete
S. G. D. G." in a circular belt-like logo on the sew plate. That inscription basically means it is patented, and "S.G.D.G."
(Sans Garantie Du Gouvernement) is a disclaimer required by the government of France stating that it
does not guarantee enforcement of the claimed patent.
The base and body appear to be a combination of stamped, bent, and formed steel or brass. It is a great
looking design, but of dubious functionality. References I have seen attribute the inventor to be S. A. Rosenthal of Berlin,
the same fellow who holds the American
patent for the Moldacot sewing machine. The Moldacot is a well-known and much more commonly seen
miniature sewing machine. It is not known how many
of these unusual small La Queen machines were produced, or how many made it to the US. One
informational site I read claimed they were very rare. I could not find any
reference to this machine having an American patent.
The condition
of this example is exceptional, and it includes the original box and instructions,
which are extremely hard to find. The La Queen is a very unusual antique sewing machine, and a must have for
any advanced sewing collection.

"Gold
Medal" Toy Sewing Machine
The market for TSM's got so hot for a while that it became difficult to find
different machines, and collectors were so eager that they would pay
crazy money for a machine that they had not seen before. A place
where Will met Desire. If that is too subtle for you, these
machines are repainted Leads with a new and different decal applied.
I have been told a few sold for big bucks, but after a bit Sanity met
Greed. The message - - Buyer Beware!!!
FAKE!! . . . . . SOLD!
Chinese
Knock-Off of German TSM / Toy Sewing Machine
Back around the turn of the century, and that would be this century, when
things were good, and there were more collectors than TSM machines around, some
enterprising entrepreneur, nobody seems to know exactly who, put in an order for
some Chinese outfit to make this sewing machine. It was really quite
nicely done. And when they first appeared a few sold for stupid money, but
after a bit the truth bubbled up, interest waned, and prices dropped.
They must not have made too many because you do not see them around all the
time. A must have for the complete collection.
Fine . . . . . . . SOLD!
"Peter Pan"
TSM / Toy Sewing Machine
The Peter Pan TSM hails from down under Australia way and is a very hard to
find TSM here in the US. The basic body design is very similar to a Singer
toy, but the wheel is different and the color is as well. The decal and
paint on this example are very nice and it will be hard to find a
nicer example.
