Note: The value of Stanley Bedrock planes has remained pretty stable over the years. Prices rose when Walters price guides first came out, demand and interest were high, and then fell somewhat about the time of 9 - 1 -11 and the following recession. Prices leveled off after that fall. That happened with a lot of antique tools & other collectibles. Condition is really the most critical aspect in relation to value. Most Stanley #602's sell in a range from 500 - 1200 depending on condition and whether or not corrugated.

Stanley Bed Rock # 602 C Corrugated Smooth Plane This looks to be a type 3 with early style round sides, and the 3 line Bedrock lever cap. It is in very nice overall condition. It has not been over-cleaned or fiddled with. The Rosewood handle is nice but could use a coat of finish / oil. It has a full length proper cutter, good throat, no rust, minor staining / pitting and no casting problems. It is a very hard to find plane in nicer than average condition and nice ready for inclusion in the best collection.

Stanley 602 C Bed Rock No. C. 1911 - 1920s Smooth Plane This Stanley No. 602 C Corrugated Bottom Bed Rock Smooth Plane has casting and other features of a type 5 from c. 1911. The overall condition is very nice with lots of original japanning.

It comes with a straight slot Stanley lever cap that according to Kaune's type study was introduced in 1923. The plane, its patina, and "look" all look original and match so this discrepancy from the type study is a mystery and unexplained. All other features of this plane match those of a type 5, including the 2 patent dates cast into the body. Proper long T logo era cutter. Good throat area. Nice Rosewood tote & knob, etc.. No structural issues, and no other apologies.

All Bed Rocks are a highly sought after user and collectible planes and for good reason. The 602 C is the smallest and hardest to find of all the Bed Rocks. Bed Rock planes with their machined mated frog to sole design are considered one of the best designs ever offered. This design eliminates the possibility of loose material like wood shavings and dust getting between the two parts and throwing the plane out of adjustment and allows the throat opening to be adjusted while the plane is assembled. Lie Nielson and other plane makers use the design and it is an often times copied idea.

Stanley No. 602 Type 4 Bed Rock Smooth Plane Very nice overall condition. Features of a type 4 dating from 1908 - 1910 only. The wood is very nice. Lots of original japanning. It is not rusty or pitted and there are no structural issues. The tag indicates the last collector got it in a trade for a #40 back in 1985. What a deal.

Stanley No. 602 Type 5/6 Bed Rock Smooth Plane w/ B of E Handle Very nice overall condition. It has features of a type 5 dating from 1911 only with a later type 6 Single line Bed Rock lever cap. It is probably correct and factory given the situation.

This Bed Rock 602 also has the unusual B of E / Board of Education Rubber handle that dates from this 1911 or later era. These hard rubber handles were made as replacements and for the wooden handles and for the most part were sold to schools where plane handles were oftentimes damaged. They are usually found on larger planes. This B of E handle, unlike many found is undamaged with no cracks chips of flakes.

Lots of original japanning. It is not rusty or pitted and there are no structural issues. All in all a sweet little 602 suitable for the collection.

Stanley Bed Rock # 602 Smooth Plane This #602 Stanley Bedrock Smooth Plane is a very nice plane. There is well over 95% of the original finish. From its features it appears to be a type 9 which was only produced in 1931 - 1932 according to the Bob Kaune type study. The Rosewood handle and knob are nice. The sole and throat area are nice as well.It has the proper Stanley Lever cap for this era, and the cutter, which is full length is of Sweetheart vintage. No rust, pitting or other detractions.

The 602 was the smallest size made and is by far the rarest and most desirable of the Bedrock series of planes. A nice plane in very nice condition!

Stanley Bed Rock # 602 Smooth Plane This is a later sweetheart era 602. It is proper with the Stanley cap as shown. It is a cosmetically nice 602 but it does have one apology. The small tab under the handle has been repaired. See Pics. After that it is in super original condition

Stanley No. 602 Bed Rock Smooth Plane This 602 Bed Rock is a cobbled together work in progress.

The round sides make it a type 4 or earlier. There is very little japanning left on the early roundside body. There is no damage to it, and it could be lapped and refinished easily enough.

It has a nice single line Bed Rock lever cap from a later type 6. It has a nice, near full length, proper era Q trademark cutter.

It is what it is and it is not priced at 1K or more, or the 3K I see one "supposedly sold" for on ebay recently. I call BS.

Stanley Bed Rock # 602 Smooth Plane This looks to be a type 3 with early round sides, and the 3 line Bedrock lever cap. It is in nice overall condition. It has never been cleaned or fiddled with nor needed it. The one apology is the small nick in the lever cap as shown in the pics. It has a very nice light colored Rosewood handle & knob, full length proper cutter, good throat, no rust, pitting or other casting problems. It is just a nice plane ready for inclusion in the best collection.

Stanley # 602 C Corrugated Bottom Bedrock Smooth Plane This #602 C is a type 6 with flat sides and a 1 line Bedrock cap. The cutter looks to be a later replacement w/ the notched rectangle BB logo. I probably have a proper era logo cutter if you want to make this all proper. Overall the plane is in nice condition - cleaned, but not overdone. There are some scratches and a minor amount of pitting here and there. It has the collectors trade mark coat of gloss lacquer to help keep it from rusting.The wood is OK. There is a small irregularity in the throat as can be seen in the pics. It is not a chip or crack, but rather just a widening at one point (see pics). A hard to find plane.

Stanley #602 Type 7 Bedrock Smooth Plane This #602 Stanley Bedrock Smooth Plane is a very nice plane overall. These planes were Stanley's top of the line bench planes when produced starting around 1898 up until the Second World War when production ceased. And when compared to the standard line of bench planes that Stanley put out it is like comparing Cadillac's with Vega's. Today they remain one of the most sought after and highly regarded bench planes that has ever been produced due to their superior quality, top of the line design features, and the super usability traits that they exhibit. This is by far the rarest and most desirable size of the Bedrock series of planes that was made. It has the proper Stanley Lever cap for this era, and the cutter, which is full length is of sweetheart vintage. The wood is nice, and the sole and throat area are nice as well. A Nice Plane!

Stanley # 602 Type 6 Bedrock Smooth Plane This Stanley #602 smooth plane is a type 6. Stanley offered these with the single line cap for about 10 years beginning in 1910 or so. I believe the cap is a newer recast. The plane has been lapped and tastefully cleaned. I believe the japanning is original. The wood is nice, and damage free.A nice example for the shelf or use.

Stanley Bed Rock No. 603 C Type 5 ROUND SIDE Smooth Plane This is a Stanley No. 603 C Bed Rock Smooth Plane that according to the type studies should not, or does not, exist. It look like an early style Round Side Bed Rock, (type 4 or before) with the 3 screw frog adjustment feature that only flat top type 5 or later Bed Rocks have.

All other features of this plane match those of a type 5, including the 2 patent dates cast into the body and the 2 line Bed Rock lever cap. Kaune's Bed Rock type study explains this at the end of his type study in a footnote as an owner / after market modification. If that is the case it was carefully done as the profile is the same as the type 4, and I see no indication of the sides rails having been worked on. I will note that the plane body does appear to have been repainted / re-japanned. Well done, but redone.

The overall condition is very nice. Proper era cutter, good throat area, good Rosewood tote & knob, correct two line cap. No structural issues, and no other apologies.

Stanley 603 C Corrugated Bottom Bedrock Smooth Plane This plane is a pre WWII type 10 dating from 1933 - 1941. Good looking rear handle. Proper Stanley cap with some nickel loss. Good throat. Proper cutter is nice. 90% or so of the original japanning. Lightly cleaned with no issues. A nice example that will make for a great user when detailed out / tuned up.

Stanley Bed Rock No. 603 Type 9 / 10 Smooth Plane This Stanley Bed Rock No. 603 Smooth Plane is in fine condition. It is all original. Long, good, proper era, Sweetheart era logo cutter, good throat area, good Rosewood tote & knob, correct Stanley cap. The lever cap slot is straight of a type 9 but it has a raised platform for the handle of a type 10. No issues, and no apologies. Just a nice clean example.

Stanley # 603 Bed Rock Smooth Plane This flat top side 603 is a type 6 with a later Stanley lever cap. It dates from pre 1922 with its two patent dates behind the frog. Decent cutter has Y Sweetheart logo. Previous owner used the hammer tap method for fine cutter adjustments, hence the cutter top had a rolled edge. Lots of original japanning. Dark patina w/ little or no pitting or rust. A few insignificant dings in the sole. The proper Rosewood handle is very nice as is the knob. A good worker.

Stanley # 603 C Bed Rock Corrugated Bottom Smooth Plane This is an early type 3 that conforms to the type study. Near full length nice Q / 92 Patent cutter. Type 3s date from 1900 - 1908 making it well over 100 years old. Lots of original japanning. Nice even patina w/ little or no pitting or rust. The proper Rosewood handle is very nice as is the knob.

Early Round Side Stanley # 603 Bed Rock Smooth Plane This Stanley # 603 Smooth Plane is a type 4 produced shortly after the turn of the century. The paint is original and 90% or so. The proper marked cutter is near full length and nice. The 3 line Bed Rock marked cap, which is proper for this era plane, is very nice. The rosewood handle and knob are nice. The plane has been lightly cleaned and has developed a lovely patina. Nice enough for the shelf, or put it back to work.

Stanley Bed Rock # 603 C Corrugated Bottom Smooth Plane Sweet!! This is a type 6 that dates from 1912 to 1921. It was tastefully cleaned years ago and has been sitting on a shelf for 30 - 40 years waiting to go back to work. The original japanning looks good. No structural issues, cracks chips or the like. Considered by many users the best designed plane with it patented mated machined frog design. A great user!!

Stanley # 604 C Corrugated Bedrock Plane This is a nice plane. The cutter and chip breaker have a different patina and may be newer replacements. The rest of the plane is original and nice. The throat is OK, and there are no chips / cracks or other casting damage. I believe it would be a type 6. A good user straight from an old-time collection.

Stanley # 604 Bedrock Smooth Plane This smooth bottom 604 is a type 6 with its one line Bed Rock cap produced between 1912 and 1921. This Stanley #604 Bedrock smooth plane has been reconditioned / lapped and looks like new. The japanning is original and close to 100%. Stanley Bedrocks are the best plane made for the money, bar none!! Everything is right, and nice. You will not be disappointed in this one.

Stanley Bedrock Type 6 # 603 Smooth Plane This Stanley # 603 Smooth Plane is a type 6 produced between 1914 - 1918 given the cutter logo. The paint is original and 90% or so. The proper marked cutter is near full length and nice where it matters. The single line Bedrock cap is proper for this era plane. The rosewood handle and knob are nice. The plane has a nice patina, and was just lightly cleaned. There is no rust or pitting. It will make for a good user.

Early Round Side Stanley # 603C Bedrock Corrugated Smooth Plane This #603 C corrugated bottom smooth plane has the 3 line Bedrock cap and is an early round side model. These features make it a Type 3, dating from approximately 1900-1909. The rosewood handle has a glued crack and is solid. It looks good, and is otherwise damage free. This 603 plane does have the collectors trade mark coat of gloss lacquer to help keep it from rusting.

This 603 C has most of its original japanning on the interior surfaces, and the sides and sole are nice and free of rust or pitting. There is just one patent date behind the frog, and the sweetheart cutter is nice as well. The Rosewood handle and knob are very nice. This one will make a perfect user, and will become a mainstay in the arsenal of quality tools on your bench.

Stanley Bedrock #603 Smooth Plane This #603 flat top Bedrock is a nice example from the ever popular Bedrock series of Stanley's "Cadillac", top of the line series of bench planes that they produced up until the second World War. This one has most of its original japanning on the interior surfaces, and the sides and sole have been carefully lapped to be free of rust or pitting. There are two pinhead size irregularities in the throat, but they are cosmetic, and will in no way interfere with the usability of the piece. There are two patent dates behind the frog, and it has a replaced full length notched logo cutter. The cap has Bedrock cast into it, but there are some bang marks or dings on the neck of it, again just cosmetic. The Rosewood handle and knob are near perfect. This one will make a perfect user, and will become a mainstay in the arsenal of quality tools on your bench.

Stanley Bedrock # 604 Smooth Plane This # 604 smooth plane has characteristics of a type 6 with it single line Bedrock cap. That would date it from the 1920's. Later bedrocks had Stanley caps.

It has well over 90% of the original japanning, and the wood is in super condition and has the style of graceful rosewood handle only these earlier Stanley planes have.

Stanley 604 Smooth Bottom Bedrock Smooth Plane This looks to be a type 4 dating from 1908 -1910 with an earlier cutter in it. According to the Bedrock type study it should have a later cutter in it than the nice near full length Q trademark cutter now installed. Good looking rear handle. Proper 2 line Bedrock cap. Good throat. 90% or so of the original japanning. Lightly cleaned with no issues. A nice example that will make for a great user.

The sides / sole have been reconditioned / lapped and the exposed surfaces are very nice. The cutter is a proper Sweetheart Y logo of a type 6. The single line lever cap is for a type 6. Stanley Bed Rock Type 6 # 604 Smooth Plane This # 604 Smooth Bottom Bedrock smooth plane is a later flat side model with pin & screw system external frog adjuster. It is in overall very nice original condition. It has the Single Bedrock cap making it a type 6 from 1912 - 1920 or so.

The japanning is near 90% or better and looks great. There are no casting cracks or other problems in the body or main casting. The rosewood handle and knob look great. The sides have a rich dark patina and sole has no rust or pitting and look good as well. The throat is good. Nice enough for the collection, or it will make a great user.

Stanley Bed Rock Type 6 - 7 # 604 C Smooth Plane This plane is a c. 1920s type 6 with a slightly later Sweetheart logo cutter from a type 7 that is near full length and nice. The japanning has been redone and looks good. Handle and knob are Rosewood, nice and proper.

Some light pitting that will easily lap out. No structural issues, cracks, chips, or the like. The dark halo around the throat area is tape residue when the japanning was baked on. A great user. Pretty nice!!

Stanley Bed Rock No. 604 Smooth Plane This very nice looking early round side Bed Rock plane has characteristics of a type 5 & 6. It has been cleaned, lapped and re-japanned w/ a baked on finish. There are no structural issues and little to no rust or pitting on the plane.

The single line Bed Rock cap is for a later type (6) than the round side type 5 or earlier body calls for. It has a nice near full length V Logo cutter of a type 6 as well. The period Rosewood handle & knob are beautiful.

Stanley Bedrock # 604 Early Round Side Smooth Plane This early round side # 604 smooth plane is a type 3 and dates from right around the turn of the century. I believe it is proper and has not been fiddled with. It is the last of the bedrocks with the great looking 3 line cap. This plane has been carefully cleaned and lapped. It is in very nice condition and has well over 90% of the original japanning, and the wood is in super condition and has the style of graceful rosewood handle only these earlier Stanley planes have. These are the best planes ever made, and for the money, a bargain when weighed against the competition.

Stanley Bedrock # 604 C Smooth Plane This # 604C corrugated smooth plane has characteristics of both a type 5 & 6. I believe it is proper and has not been fiddled with. Rather I think the type study needs to be a bit less rigid, and those who consider it the bible need to be a bit more flexible in their beliefs. Anyway the discrepancy is the type 6 cap, on what otherwise is a type 5. Perhaps it was issued on Jan 1st explaining it, or perhaps -------

Anyway, it has well over 90% of the original japanning, and the wood is in super condition and has the style of graceful rosewood handle only these earlier Stanley planes have.There are a few numbers stamped into the side rail, indicating this may have come from a school or shop at some point. A very nice example of a proper plane, or perhaps a rare variation from the type study.

Stanley Bedrock Type 1 # 604 Smooth Plane This is a type 1 604. The japanning is about 80%. It is all proper. I sold this to the collector in the early 90's. I remember trying to buy just the cap when I found it as I did not know it was really a Bedrock when I first saw it. The seller would have no part of that, it was all or nothing. The collector gave me the Bedrock type study after he bought it from me. It has sat in that collection for close to 25 years. It is ready for a place in the next one, or it will make for a good user. Stanley Bed Rock # 604 C Corrugated Bottom Smooth Plane This is an early roundside Type 3 dating from 1900 to 1908. It is from the period of some of Stanley's finest offerings. Lightly cleaned and has nice Patina. The overall condition is great even though both the cutter and side of the body are stamped Damaged. From a period when Stanley took real pride in their offerings and the slightest blemish was noted. I lightly cleaned it, and truthfully do not see any issue.

The are no structural issues and little to no rust or pitting. Full length, proper logo, good cutter. 85% or better of the original japanning. Great Rosewood knob & handle. It has the patented machined matched frog design and external frog adjustment. Nice enough for any collection, or will be a great user for the money. Nice!!

It has its proper 3 line Bed Rock lever cap. It has a good near full length proper era cutter. The Rosewood tote has a glue joint and has been nicely refinished. Original japanning. Lightly cleaned with an even patina. It is in very good overall condition with no other apologies of note.

The machined / mated frog to sole feature allows for precise frog adjustment with the plane fully assembled. It prevents dust, chips, or other material from getting under the frog to throw it out of adjustment or level. The design has been copied by many contemporary makers including Lie Nielsen.

Short story. I have been at this long enough to remember when there were buyers who would not buy a Bedrock if it did not have a Bed Rock cap. That later ones like this were supposed to have a Stanley cap made no difference Sellers were happy to help. In fact many sellers had no access to a type study, nor did they care, or know any better. They knew what sold and just cobbled stuff up to make it look nice so it would sell. And it did sell. Some did it well, as with this one, others not so good. There is no tag on this saying where or when the collector got it, but it has the aura of a California creation from the 80's - 90's where a lot of planes were made to look very nice for the hungry collectors / consumers of the day. A good looking plane even if it does not fit the type study, and Priced Right!!

Stanley Bedrock #604 1/2 C Type 3 Smooth Plane This plane is in good overall condition. It has very little original japanning left. I have put very nice proper and original vintage wood on this plane. I replaced the short cutter with a proper vintage cutter. I lightly cleaned the whole plane. There is very light texture / pitting on the sides and bottom, but nothing major or that has to be dealt with. It would lap out easily and if repainted this plane would look super. The stuff on the cap is crud, and not pitting. It will come off as well with a proper cleaning. It is priced accordingly, and will make a great user just the way it sits.

Stanley Bedrock #604 1/2 Type 6 Smooth Plane This plane is in excellent overall condition. Note the great early Stanley Rosewood handle with a nearly full original decal. The high knob is very nice as well with no cracks or finish loss. They are both rich, dark, and near flawless. The cutter has the sweetheart logo and that as well as the other features date this plane from approx 1912-1922. The original black japanning is well over 90% but is very light from what i have seen on other examples. There are no casting cracks, chips or other flaws, anywhere! The throat area is very nice as is the rest of the sole. The sides have a ever so light texture or pitting that can not be felt but with a glass is evident and indicates that this plane was once lightly rusted, but his is not really noticeable, and will in no way affect the use. It would easily lap out if one so desired. The cap is proper and according to the type study that Bob Kaune has put out, this would be a type 6 and all parts are proper for this. These 604 1/2 Bedrock planes very hard to find these days, and they are still the standard that all planes try to emulate 100 years later. Nothing finer has ever been built for the money and value in one of these planes, and this one will not disappoint in any way, it is very nice!! Top Shelf! Recommended.

Stanley # 605 1/4 Bedrock Junior Jack Plane This super condition plane is a type 9, and is proper in all respects. It still retains nearly all of the original black japanned finish. The knob and handle are nice, noting the partial decal on the handle. There is a small 1/8" deep by 1/2" chip out of the top of the tote. There are no casting problems, and the body just exhibits a nice even patina. It has never been over cleaned or otherwise messed with as there was no need. This collector condition and very difficult to find plane is a super example of a plane that does not appear very often. A nice one!!

Stanley Bedrock # 605 1/4 Junior Jack Plane The 605 1/4 Junior Jack Plane is one of the hardest to find of all the different size Bedrock planes. They were only made for 18 years beginning in 1925. So, this is proper with the straight slot Stanley cap as by that time Stanley had dropped the bedrock marked caps on these planes. Bedrocks were the Cadillac series of the Stanley line of bench planes and there is no finer or more popular woodworking plane made.

Stanley Bed Rock # 605 1/4 Junior Jack Plane This is one of the hardest Stanley Bedrock planes to find. It ranks right up there with the 602 & 604 1/2 and is probably even scarcer given its shorter production period.Stanley bedrocks were first introduced in the late 1890's and had round sides but a very unique frog design that the standard Stanley line of planes did not have. After a short period they flattened the side rails as this one has. Over the years the name on the cap changed from a 3 line cap, to a single line Bedrock, then to a 2 line one and finally near the end of the production period simply went to the Stanley inscribed cap as this one has. Stanley stopped making Bedrocks with the beginning or WWII and this dates from right around that time.

This example is in collector condition and still retains nearly all of its original shiny black japanned finish. The wood is nice and much nicer than the glare in the pictures shows. The Stanley in a single line on the cap is proper as they only offered this plane after they had dropped the Bed Rock marked cap. A super piece in super condition. .

Bob Kaune's type study of Bedrock Planes indicates this type was made for just one year in 1911, but this has a later type 6 cutter in it. It has the proper 2 line Bedrock cap, flat sides, and tall front knob of a type 5.

This plane has approx 80% of its original japanning. The sides and sole are rust and pit free and look good. The Rosewood handle & knob are proper and very nice. A workhorse ready to go back to work.

Stanley Bed Rock No. 605 1/2 C Corrugated Bottom Large Jack Plane This 605 1/2 is in very nice overall condition with 90% or so original finish. It is a type 4 from 1908 - 1910.

It should have a 2 line Bed Rock lever cap instead of the plain cap on it. The 605 1/2 is an oversize No. 5 that is a bit longer, wider, and heavier. Proper era T logo cutter has lots of life left in it. Nice proper Rosewood tote and knob. A nice example that will be a fine user.

Stanley Type 6A Bed Rock 606 Fore Plane This # 606 Bed Rock Plane being a Type 6 A dates from 1922 only according to Kaune's type study. Good proper Rosewood Handle & Knob. It has a near full length cutter with light pitting at the top. The bottom is good. 90 % or so of the original japanning. A pretty nice example.

Stanley # 606 Bed Rock Fore Plane This later flat side 606 looks to be a Type 6. It has the proper 1 line Bedrock cap, flat sides, 3 screw frog adjuster, tall front knob, 2 patents, etc. The cutter has a Q logo for a earlier type. Good wood, no real apologies. A nice looking plane.

Stanley Bedrock # 606 Fore Plane This 606 Bedrock fore plane is a type 4 and dates from right after the turn of the century. The wood is good, there is no rust or pitting to speak of. It has a later full length cutter installed. A nice plane.

Stanley # 6 (606) Type 1 Bedrock Fore Plane Stanley introduced the Bedrock line of planes in 1898. The outward appearance of the first ones was near identical to the standard looking line of Stanley bench planes. The cap was different, and marked with the new, distinctive 3 line Bedrock info. There was a single frog adjusting screw behind the frog that standard issue Stanley Bench planes did not have at this time, and that was about it for differences. Later they flattened the sides, and added pins and 2 additional screws to the frog design to change the look and action.

The earliest type Bedrock planes was marked #6 and not 606. This was the same for all sizes 2 thru 8. . Also at the tail, there is a ground out area where Stanley removed a patent date that was in conflict with somebody else's patent. This type 1 Bedrock plane was only offered for a couple of years, and is quite scarce. In order to fully understand and appreciate the above info one must see and study the type study put out by Bob Kaune.

The condition is very nice noting that the top of the rear tote has chipped away. A very hard to find plane, and the beginning of an era!!

Stanley # 606 C Bed Rock Corrugated Fore Plane Given the cutter's Y sweetheart logo this Stanley 606 C is a Type 6A dating from 1922 only The condition of this nearly 100 year old plane is incredible and it looks as if was never used.

There is nothing more than shelf dust and a bit of light rust on the cutter that will wipe off. None Nicer!! A fine example for the collection of the best .

Stanley Bed Rock # 607 C Corrugated Bottom Jointer Plane This flat side Stanley Bed Rock 607 C has 2 patent dates behind the frog and the 3 screw adjustment feature. It is a type 5 that dates from 1911 only.

It has a proper very nice T logo near full length cutter in it. It has a proper 2 line Bed Rock lever cap. The Rosewood handle and knob are very nice. Lots of original japanning. No structural issues, cracks, chips, or the like.

The superior design machined / mated frog to sole feature with its double pin locking design that allows for precise frog adjustment with the plane fully assembled has been copied by many contemporary makers including Lie Nielsen. It is considered by many to be the best design ever used.

Clean and ready to go. A great user that is ready to go back to work, or nice enough for the collection. .A top shelf example in about as nice condition as one could ask for!

Stanley # 607 Bed Rock Jointer Plane This Stanley Berdock 7 (607)is a Type 1/ 2 dating from 1998 - 1899 only. The japanning has been enhanced, and the Rosewood handle is a later replacement from a slightly later era. Other than that this is a very nice plane.

A little note here about the collector and Bed Rocks. When he first started buying Stanley and Bedrocks, neither Walters book or Kaune's type study were available. He was winging it. He made himself notes documenting the differences and similarities to other Bedrocks he was buying. He knew it was a bedrock just marked 7, but the rest was a mystery to him. After a while, and after type studies, he tried to buy one of every type. He would have done it, but simply ran out of time.

Side Note: I remember the first type 1 Bedrock I ran into 35 or so years ago, also before the type studies. I needed a Bedrock cap and was trying to buy the cap for $5.00 instead of buying the whole plane for $10.00. Dumb and dumber. The good old days.

Stanley Bed Rock # 607 C Corrugated Jointer Plane This looks to be a type 2 from 1898 - 1900.It is marked #7 and has the ground out patent date. The tag on the side indicates the collector bought this in 1987 about 35 years ago. He applied his trademark coat of clear lacquer to protect it from rusting and put it in a glass front case he made for his collection. A nice plane ready for the collection or bench.

It looks to have been Kaunieized, or Habitized as such restored planes are commonly referred to. Whoever restored this one did a super job, and it is in Fine + condition now ready for the shelf or bench. It has the single line Bedrock cap making it a type 6 from 1912 thru the early twenties. The new black japanning is near 100% and looks great. There are no casting cracks or problems, and the rosewood handle and knob look great. The owner had built a special place inside his tool box to hold it, and then proceeded to add so many other tools that it never came out of the box again for over 50 years. It is in superb condition. Stanley Bed Rock # 607 C Corrugated Bottom Jointer Plane A beautiful jointer plane ready to go back to work, or nice enough for the collection. This Stanley Bed Rock 607 C has 2 patent dates behind the frog and is a type 6 that dates from approx. 1910 - 1920.

It has a nice near full length sharpened cutter in it with a T logo. The Kaune Bed Rock type study says this logo came with an earlier type 5. It has a proper single line Bed Rock lever cap. The Rosewood handle and knob are both very nice. Lots of original japanning with just minor losses. No structural damage, other issues or apologies.

A great 100 + year old plane that will be a great user! Not only a better design and nicer finish than many contemporary planes that copy the design and are more expensive.

Early Round Side #608 C Stanley Bedrock Jointer Plane This vintage workhorse from Stanley's top of the line Bedrock series is in nice condition. There is approx. 85% plus of the original japanning on the body, and the nice even patina on the exposed metal parts that can only come with nearly 100 years of age, careful use and proper storage. This example has all the characteristics of a type 3 and is proper in all respects for that vintage plane including a properly marked cutter. There are no casting cracks, chips or other damage anywhere. There are some small nicks in the top of the gracefully formed rosewood tote that is hardly noticeable. The grain and color of this handle are nice. The front knob is nice.. This line of planes was the the Flagship of the Stanley line, the Bedrock 600 Series, and are still considered the best plane made or available, and no other plane by any other maker has ever come close to matching them in quality, design, usability and value since Stanley first started producing them over a 100 years ago. This example will not disappoint. It is a beautiful plane.

Stanley Bedrock # 608 Jointer Plane This # 608 Stanley Bedrock jointer plane is a type 7 or later dating it from the 20's and up to the beginning of WWII when production was stopped for ever. It was the largest jointer plane Stanley produced and this example is in nice original condition with lots of original japanning remaining. The Rosewood handle and knob are both nice. The cutter is near full length and has over 1 1/2" left to the slot. Thee is no rust or pitting. The sides have some light texture, but no damage or cracks. It will make a great user.

The rest of the plane looks OK with just light pitting / texture to the sole. This plane was gently restored at some point and the japanning has been enhanced / touched up. Stanley Bed Rock Type 2 # 608 C Corrugated Bottom Jointer Plane This is a Stanley Rule & Level Co. Type 2 Bed Rock No. 8 C (# 608) Jointer Plane. This Stanley 608 C Bed Rock dates from 1898 - 1899. When Stanley first introduced the Bed Rock line of planes they numbered them 2 thru 8 like their typical line of planes. It was not until the type 3 offered in 1900 that they started using the 600 series to number the planes and differentiate them from the regular line of bench planes.

Type 1 & type 2 Bedrocks had the new machined & mated frog design but were numbered with just a single number 2 thru 8 as this one is. The other distinguishing feature of these early type Bed Rocks is that there is a milled out area where a patent date in the casting that was in conflict with a competitors patent was ground out. That date was removed after the plane had been japanned. This is a type 2 as it has just one patent date on the lateral. It has a proper and nice 3 line Bed Rock Cap.

This plane has a rich dark patina. There is no major rust or pitting to speak of. A previous owner scratched his SS # on the side with an electric pen. This would easily lap out if desired. There is at least 80% of the of the japanning. The knob and handle are the premium Rosewood of the era and very nice. The cutter is long, proper and OK. Good throat. Overall it is a very nice plane and good enough for the collection, or will be a fine user.

Stanley # 608 C Corrugated Jointer Plane This is a type 6 from 1912 - 1921. Overall it is a very nice plane and good enough for the collection, or will be a fine user.

It has a later cutter, and the japanning has been enhanced.The chip breaker has a minor chip in it. It has shelf dust from sitting on the collectors shelf for the last 30 years or so. There is no rust or pitting to speak of. The knob and handle are the premium Rosewood of the era and very nice. The cutter is OK. A nice plane.

Stanley Bedrock # 8 Type 1 ( # 608 ) Jointer Plane This Stanley Bedrock (608) Type 1 is properly marked # 8 and has the conflicting patent date ground off the plane body. This was done after the plane was japanned at the factory. It was a few years later that Stanley changed the numbering system from 2 - 8 to to the 600 series, and a few years later still till they flattened the sides to further differentiate them from the standard line of bench planes they also offered.

This type 1 Bedrock Jointer plane is in overall nice condition. It has the proper 3 line Bedrock cap. The japanning is 80% or so. There are no casting cracks or problems in the body or main casting. The rosewood handle and knob look great. The sides and bottom have no rust or pitting and look good as well.. These first model Bedrocks are very hard to find in this nice condition.

It has some earlier parts including a near full length early J logo cutter in it. It also has a plain lever cap. The Rosewood handle and knob are proper and look good. The baked on japanning has been redone and looks good.

There is some very light texture to the exposed metal parts. There is no structural damage, or other issues.
