No. 1 Smooth Planes

Stanley No. 1 Planes .


# 1 Stanley Smooth Plane from Sweetheart Era    The Stanley #1 smooth plane is on the right. The other is a rare Ohio 01 and the ad for the Ohio Tool Co. No. 1 size smooth plane will be found on the appropriate page.

This Stanley #1 smooth plane is in fine overall condition.It has been lightly cleaned and is all original. The full length Sweetheart Logo cutter is designated as AA. That AA Sweetheart logo dates this plane from 1923 - 1935.

There is no rust or pitting. The original japanning is about 98% or so. Note the rarely seen orange paint on the frog. It is original. The lever cap has no pitting or rust and is very nice. The throat is perfect. The rosewood handle and knob are nice with original finish.  A super nice example that will be the highlight of any Stanley plane or tool collection.

Stanley Sweetheart Era No. 1 Smooth Plane This Stanley #1 smooth plane is in very good overall condition with some losses to the japanned finish. The original japanning is about 75 - 80%. The exposed side rails and sole are rust and pit free showing just normal wear and patina.

It has a near full length Y logo Sweetheart cutter. According to Roger Smiths type study the Y Sweetheart logo dates this No. 1 smooth plane from 1921 - 1922 only, making it over 100 years old and a harder to find variant.

The Stanley marked lever cap is proper and has no pitting or rust and is very nice. The throat area is perfect w/ no issues. The rosewood handle and knob are both very nice. This over 100 hundred year old No. 1 plane is a very nice example that will be the highlight of any Stanley plane or antique tool collection.

Stanley # 1 Sweetheart Era Smooth Plane  This is a super condition Stanley #1 smooth plane. It has the Y trademark logo on the full length original grind cutter. It has a very nice Stanley cap which would indicate this is a type 13 and so the date can be further narrowed to between 1921 & 1922 if Roger Smiths type study holds true for #1's.

The original japanning is very good with well over 95% remaining. The full grained Rosewood handle is near perfect and most of the original finish remains. The previous owner did stamp his name into the side of the handle. The front knob looks great. A very nice plane that will be a welcome addition to the collection. It will be some time before a nicer example is available. Recommended.

Stanley c. 1900 "Pat 92"  # 1 Smooth Plane   This #1 Stanley smooth plane dates from near the turn of the century and is in good overall condition. Type 6 and later planes have 2 grooves milled where the frog mates the base and that is what we have here. It has a nice full length Pat. 92 cutter w/ light stamp. Note the front knob has one spot of lighter sap wood. A nice touch. The Rosewood rear tote is beautiful. There is patina and staining on the body and sole with no rust and just ever so light spots of pitting. The throat is good. A nice example of an early Stanley #1, the most popular collectible plane out there. A must have for any Stanley plane or serious antique tool / plane collection.

Stanley # 1 Sweetheart Era Smooth Plane  This Stanley #1 smooth plane is in fine overall condition.It is all original and has had nothing done to it beyond a lite clean. The Sweetheart Logo cutter is designated as AA, is full length and just lightly stained. That AA Sweetheart logo dates this plane from 1923 - 1935.

There is no rust or pitting, just genuine patina on the body and sole.The original japanning is about 98% or so. The lever cap has no pitting or rust and is very nice. The throat is perfect. The rosewood handle and knob are nice noting one tiny flea bite I have shown in the pics.  A super nice example that will be the highlight of any Stanley plane or tool collection. Tough to find in this condition!!

Stanley # 1 Smooth Plane   This # 1 smooth plane looks to be a type 11 - 12 dating from 1910 - 1920 given the V trademark cutter it has. No rust or pitting to speak of, and it has well over 90% of the original japanning. A nice example!!

Stanley Type 4 / 5 # 1 Smooth Plane   This early Stanley #1 smooth plane is in fine restored condition.It has been lapped and had a new japanned coating applied and looks great.The mating surface for the frog is flat across the entire width, the frog to body design used between 1874 & 1888 making this plane a type 4 or 5. On type 1 & 2's it is a I shape. On types 6 and later it is flat with 2 groove milled into it. It has a nice full length Pat. 92 cutter. Note the beaded front knob, and the beautiful proper smaller profile, more curved than later examples, rosewood handle. There is no rust or pitting on the body and sole. The throat is good. A nice example of an early Stanley #1, the most popular collectible plane out there. It will be the highlight of any Stanley plane or antique tool collection.

Stanley Sweetheart Era No. 1 Smooth Plane   This Stanley #1 smooth plane is in fine condition. It has a full length Y Sweetheart logo cutter with original grind. That Y Sweetheart logo dates this plane from 1921 - 1922 only making it a harder to find variant.

I believe this plane has been carefully lapped as there is no rust or pitting on the body or sole. It may be original though. The sides are full thickness and about equal side to side.   The japanning is about 98% or so and looks to be original. The Stanley marked lever cap is proper and has no pitting or rust and is very nice. The throat is perfect. The rosewood handle is nice.  A super nice example that will be the highlight of any Stanley plane or antique tool collection.

Stanley # 1 Smooth Plane   This Stanley #1 smooth plane is in nice overall condition.This later #1 Stanley has the notched rectangle logo on the cutter and dates from after 1936.

There is no rust or pitting on the body and the original japanning is about 98% or so. There are a few tool box type dings on the side walls as seen in the pics. The lever cap has some stains, but no pitting or rust. The rosewood handle and knob are nice, but have little original finish on them. The handle and knob had been painted red at one time and most of the original finish was lost removing that. The throat has a tiny imperfection, like a 1/32 I have pictured. A pretty nice example that could be further cleaned up to be at least fine and a highlight of any Stanley tool collection.

Stanley # 1 Smooth Plane   This Stanley #1 smooth plane is in fine condition.It is all original and has had nothing done to it beyond a lite clean. The  J Logo cutter is full length. The J logo, Stanley in a notched rectangle dates this plane from after 1935.

There is no rust or pitting, just genuine patina on the body and sole. The original japanning is about 98% or so. The Stanley marked lever cap has no pitting or rust and is very nice. The throat is perfect. The rosewood handle and knob are nice noting crazing in the finish.  A nice example that will be the highlight of any Stanley plane or tool collection.

Early No. 1 Stanley Smooth Plane   This early Stanley #1 smooth plane is in nice overall condition. The original japanning is about 80% or so.  It has the I frame below the frog making it a type 1 or 2. According to the type study, the only thing keeping it from being a type 1 is that the lever cap does not have a banjo spring. In fact many people would call this a type 1 just because of the I frame. Very very few #1 planes are known with a banjo cap.  In either case, it dates from approx. 1867 - 1872.

The plane has a couple of minor apologies that can be overlooked given the rareness of this plane. The sides have a couple of small insignificant patches of pitting. (see pics)  The throat area has a tiny hairline / crack behind the cutter that is stable. It has a properly marked long cutter w/ some minor pitting at the top. There are a few tool box type dings on the side walls and sole as seen in the pics. The handle is nice, and the beaded front knob looks pretty good as well. Very few of these early #1 planes turn up. It is the first I have had in over 20 years. Nice enough!!

Stanley # 1 Smooth Plane   This Stanley #1 smooth plane is in nice overall condition.The body has been lapped and there is some ever so light pitting remaining. The plane is beginning to develop a nice patina.   The rosewood handle has a few minor chips on top.  The low front  knob is nice.  The japanning is about 90%. The throat is proper and has not been opened. A pretty nice example.

Stanley # 1 Smooth Plane   This body on this Stanley #1 smooth plane has been lapped and it has been refinished.It looks pretty good noting that the tip of the handle has some losses. From the logo on the cutter it looks to date from near the turn of the century. The unmarked lever cap is nice. All in all a pretty nice example.

Stanley Rule & Level Co. # 1 Smooth Plane  This Stanley #1 smooth plane is in about as nice condition as one could ask for. The tag the collector made out indicates he bought this in 1987. He determined from the notched rectangle cutter logo that it dated from after 1936. He must have just gotten his type study and studiously noted this plane's features and his other #1's, trying to exactly type and date them.
 
This plane has no major condition issues. It looks to have been lapped at some point, and now 30 some years later has developed a nice even patina. There are spots of minor shelf rust on the sole that will easily clean, and no pitting to speak of. The cutter is nice and full length. The throat is good.  The rosewood handle has nearly all of its original finish and is a light colored sap. It is an original. The japanning is over 95% and the Stanley marked cap is very nice. No apologies. These nice condition #1's just do not appear very often unless coming out of a collection as this one has. A top shelf example nice enough for any collection.

Stanley Rule & Level Co. Sweetheart Era # 1 Smooth Plane  This is without a doubt the finest condition Stanley #1 smooth plane I have ever had or offered. It is the best candidate for the phrase "a plane looking for a box" I have ever seen. It is about as close to dead mint as anyone could ask. Check all the pics to see the condition. This is the last and best #1 you will ever see or need.

This superb condition plane has no condition issues or apologies. The cutter is full length, has the original grind, and carries the AA Sweetheart era logo dating this plane from 1923 - 1935. The heavily grained Rosewood handle and knob look great and both have 99% of their original finish. The japanning is near 100%. No apologies. This plane has not been rehabbed or gone over. It is all original. I guarantee it. This is the one for the center spot on the top shelf of any Stanley or plane collection. Highly Recommended!!

Stanley Rule & Level Co. # 1 Smooth Plane    This is a nice condition later #1. It has a notched rectangle logo cutter and Stanley marked lever cap which would date it from the late 30's / 40's. It was used, but everything is nice. The dark rosewood handle and knob are very nice. The throat is correct, and there is no rust or pitting, just a nice even patina on the body. It has well over 90% of the original japanning.  I do not think the cap was ever plated.  It is just a nice plane ready for the collection.

Stanley # 1 Sweetheart Era Smooth Plane  This is about the nicest Stanley #1 I have had the pleasure to offer in over 20 years. It is flawless. The previous owner who attended the West Coast Tool Meetings back in the heyday bought some very nice Stanley pieces, and this was his nicest buy. It was bought it back in the 80's, and I think he tried it once before putting it in a display to never be used again. The worst anyone could say about it is that the finish on the handle has some minor crazing. Look at all the pics. You will not find a nicer one offered anywhere.

Stanley # 1 Sweetheart Era Smooth Plane  This is a super condition Stanley #1 smooth plane. It has the AA trademark logo on the full length original grind cutter. It has a very nice smooth cap which would indicate this is a type 12 and so the date can be further narrowed to between 1923 & 1925 if Roger Smiths type study holds true for #1's. I have had slightly later #1's with the Stanley cap and so this makes sense.

This sweet little #1 Stanley plane saw little if any use. The full length cutter has just minor spotting / stains. The plane has not been over-cleaned. The original japanning is near perfect and at least 98% remaining. The sides still show the original milling and just a few minor stains. The full grained dark heartwood Rosewood handle is near perfect and most of the original finish remains. The front knob looks great noting one small hairline in the wood at the base. One of the frog screws looks to be a replacement, but it threads in and tightens properly. A super nice plane that will be a welcome addition to the collection. It will be some time before a nicer example is available. Highly recommended.

Stanley # 1 Sweetheart Era Smooth Plane  This is a super condition Stanley #1 smooth plane. It has the AA trademark logo on the cutter and Stanley on the lever cap. That would date this plane from after 1925 and prior to1935 when the cutter logo was changed to the Stanley in the notched rectangle logo. The heart is hard to see in the pic because of the glare, but it is there.  It is near impossible to further pinpoint the exact date of manufacture.

This sweet little #1 plane saw little if any use. The cutter is full length and has just minor spotting / stains. It has not been over-cleaned, lapped or messed with. The japanning is near perfect and at least 98%. There is some light staining to the sole, but it is not pitting. The sides still show the original milling and just a few minor stains. These could easily be lapped out to make this plane grade to be near mint.   The handle and knob are both near perfect and so is the finish on them.  There is just a couple of minor spots of corrosion on the lever of the cap. This will clean as well.  Look at all the pics. It will be some time before a nicer example is available. A super nice plane that will be a welcome addition to the collection.  Highly recommended.

Stanley #1 Smooth Plane  This Sweetheart Era #1 is in about as nice condition as one could ask for, and just look at that decal on the handle. There is well over 95% of the original japanning remaining, and there is no rust,  pitting, casting problems or other damage  that I need to report to you. This is a prime example of Stanley's smallest and most popular collectable smooth plane. This example is ready to be proudly displayed on the top shelf as a highlight of the collection. Go for it!

Stanley # 1 Sweetheart Era Smooth Plane  Minty Nice. No Apologies other than some staining of the sole.   It has been many years since I have had one with this nice a decal on the handle. It is near perfect as is the rest of the plane.

This super condition Stanley #1 smooth plane has the AA trademark logo on the cutter and Stanley on the lever cap. That would date this plane from after 1925 and prior to1933 when the cutter logo was changed to the Stanley in the notched rectangle logo. That would make it a type 13 - 15.

The cutter is full length and has just minor spotting / stains. It has not been over-cleaned, lapped or messed with. The japanning is near perfect and at least 98%. There is some light staining to the sole, but it is not pitting. The sides still show the original milling and just a few minor stains. The handle and knob are both near perfect and so is the finish on them. Again check out the decal. it is original, and not a new addition I have heard are being offered. Look at all the pics. 2 Stanley #1 Smooth Planes  The Stanley #1 is the most avidly sought of all Stanley Planes for tool collectors.  These 2 examples are the famous Stanley / Bailey #1 Smooth Plane. On the left is a nice example that is in super nice original condition. It is a earlier model  pre 1920's which is denoted by the lack of the Stanley logo cast into the cap. Other than the name Stanley cast into the lever cap on later models, and the logo on the cutter the #1 plane body was unmarked. The finish on the handle and knob are original and 90% or more of the original japanning remains. There is no rust or pitting to speak of on the body or sole. The throat is the proper size and nice as well with no stress cracks or  widening from chips. The cutter is a more recent NOS replacement with the notched rectangle mark.I have another earlier cutter for it, but it is worn and the logo is unreadable.   There are plenty of #1 planes out there, but not many in as nice condition as this example.

On the left is another example from the same general era with the T logo on the cutter. The handle and knob are original and in super condition. The paint / japanning is original and near perfect as well. There is some light staining / patina on the body sides but no pitting or rust. The lever cap has the proper B casting mark on the back side. It is as nice an example as you will find anywhere.

Stanley #1 Smooth Plane  The enduring favorite and most avidly sought of all Stanley Planes for tool collectors, this is the famous Stanley / Bailey #1, and it is in super original condition.   Other than the logo on the cutter early #1 plane were unmarked, probably because of size constraints. The finish on the handle and knob are original, and there is no rust or pitting to speak of on the body or sole. The throat is the proper size and nice as well. There are plenty of #1 planes out there, but not many in as nice condition as this example.

Stanley # 1 Sweetheart Era Smooth Plane  This is a very nice Stanley #1. It has the AA trademark logo on the cutter and Stanley is not on the cap, so we can date this down to just a couple of years from 1923 -1925 if the type study is correct.

This sweet little #1 plane saw little use, and has never been cleaned, lapped or messed with.  The one apology is a hairline crack in the Rosewood rear tote that is nearly invisible.  This could probably made completely invisible by gluing and refinishing it, but the original finish and look are to nice right now. I do not think it has ever been glued, and I did not take it apart to check. The japanning is near perfect, and with a light clean to the cutter this would rate as Fine+ on anyone's chart. Look at all the pics. A nice plane that will be a welcome addition to the collection.

Stanley Rule & Level Co. # 1 Smooth Plane  This Stanley #1 smooth plane is in nicer condition than one could hope for, and it is all original and "right". It has not been cleaned or rehabbed in any way. It is literally one of the nicest #1 I have had to offer in years.
 
This plane has no condition issues and there are no apologies. Its cutter is marked with the patent '92 and the cutter is full length, original grind, and like new. That would date this plane from right around the turn of the century---over 100 years ago. The throat is good.  The dark rosewood handle and knob have nearly all of their original finish and look great. The japanning is near perfect. The cap is very nice. Again, no apologies. These nice condition #1's just do not appear very often unless coming out of a collection as this one has. A top shelf example nice enough for any collection.

Stanley  #1 Smooth Plane  This #1 Stanley Plane is nice, but has seen use, and there is some loss to the finish. It has the Pat 92 cutter which would date it from just before the turn of the century.

It has a sweetheart logo cutter in it, and it would date from the mid 20's to late 30's. Stanley Rule & Level Co. # 1 Smooth Plane  This Stanley #1 smooth plane is in nice overall condition.The body has the B casting mark. Its has a J trademark cutter.   I believe that the proper cap for this era #1 would not be marked Stanley. This one is.
 
This plane has developed a nice even patina. There is some staining and some ever so light pitting, most notably on the cutter.The cap iron is clearly marked with Leonard Bailey patent info (see pics).  The rosewood handle looks OK. It has a crack or line near the base which can be seen in the pics.  The low front  knob is nice.  The japanning is about 90%. The throat is proper and has not been opened. These early models are much harder to find than later ones. A pretty nice example.

Stanley # 1 Smooth Plane c. 1870's Type 3 / 4  This early Stanley #1 smooth plane is in very nice overall condition  The cutter has a J trademark which would make it a type 3 / 4 dating from 1872 / 1884. Number 1 planes are hard to type because they are missing many of the features that larger planes had. Patent dates, laterals, other markings, and so forth.  I think it is a type 3 / 4  because of the low milled receiver with no indent. Type 6 planes from after 1888 would have recesses milled into the receiver.  

This plane has no major condition issues.It has developed a nice even patina and there is no rust and just minor pitting. The cutter is nice and full length. The J trademark is faint and there is some light pitting near the top. The cap iron is clearly marked with Leonard Bailey patent info (see pics).  The rosewood handle looks great and has nearly all of its original finish as does the nice low knob with beaded base.The japanning is thin and approx. 70%. The throat is proper and has not been opened. No apologies. These early models are much harder to find than later ones. A top shelf example nice enough for any collection.

WWII Era Stanley # 2 Smooth Plane   The overall condition of this one is nice enough. Lots of original japanning, and no damage to speak of. Stanley # 2 planes are hard to date as they only generally follow the type study of a # 4 that is the standard. This 2 has features covering a wide date range.

It came from a collection, and I do not know the history. I think it is a WWII era example that used parts up during the war effort. The BB logo cutter dates it from the 1936 or later. The straight slot cap from before that date. The non Rosewood handle that looks right and original would date from WWII. And I do not know what to make of the lack of a tab under the handle. I always thought that happened on only the last models from the 50s or later. A mystery of sorts.

Stanley # 2 Smooth Plane This is a nice clean pre WWII Stanley # 2. It is is in overall good + condition. The BB logo stamp, Stanley in a rectangle, cutter is a full length NOS cutter and a later replacement. The straight slot lever cap would date it from 1933 or before. No. 2s are hard to date beyond that. No rust or pitting to speak of, and lots of original japanning. Pretty nice.

Stanley No. 2 Smooth Plane  Nice enough. This is a 1920s - 1930s Sweetheart era plane. There is some missing finish, and the handle was glued, but it is otherwise very nice.

Stanley No. 2 Sweetheart Era Smooth Plane  Nice enough! 80% or better original japanned finish.Near full length cutter with Type AA Heart logo dates it from approx. 1920s - 1930s. The top of the cutter has a burr edge from the user s fine adjustments. It has a nice original dark patina and ever so lite pitting on one side. The good looking proper Rosewood Handle and knob are nice. A pretty nice example of a No. 2 Stanley smooth plane.

Stanley # 2 Smooth Plane (Last Model)  Same as above but nicer. The japanning is near perfect as is the nickel plating on the cap. This last model Stanley #2 smooth plane was produced between 1955 & 1961.  Being a type 19 these planes have a very thick finish on the Rosewood handle & knob that has a tendency to chip as it has on this example.  These are a bit longer than earlier models and measure 8" to the end of the tab under the handle.They are considered much harder to find than most earlier model 2 size planes.

Stanley # 2 Smooth Plane (Long Last Model)  This Stanley # 2 smooth plane Stanley Rule & Level Co.is an example of the last  # 2 size plane Stanley produced between 1955 & 1961.This example shows some signs of wear and loss to the nickel on the cap but is in overall nice condition. These are a bit longer than earlier models and measure 8" to the end of the tab under the handle.They are considered much harder to find than most earlier model # 2 size planes.  The japanning is over 95%. The handles are nice with some loss to the original thick finish. The owner did put 2 file cuts in the top rail on one side as an identifier.

Stanley No. 2 Sweetheart Era Smooth Plane Very nice overall condition. # 2 Stanley planes can be hard to date exactly or type as they did not have the same changes as say a #4 did that the type studies are based on. With the nice, near full length Y Sweetheart logo cutter, and tall front knob this No 2 plane dates from 1921 and would be a type 12 with a low front knob of an earlier type 11.

The wood is very nice. Well over 95% of the original japanning. It is not pitted and there are no other issues. The camera light glare make the surface appear rustier / redder than it is. It looks better in person, and will detail out to be fine.

Stanley Type 4 Pre Lateral # 2 Smooth Plane   This is an early pre lateral type 4 # 2 smooth plane. They were offered for about 10 years starting in 1874. Type 1 planes were first offered in 1867 and lateral levers were first introduced on type 5 planes in 1885 to give you an idea of the type progression and design changes.

Tastefully cleaned with little or no pitting and no other condition issues. The overall condition is very nice. The cutter is near full length and has the proper era logo. The Rosewood handle and knob are nice. Lots of original japanning remains. A nice example of a hard to find plane.

Stanley # 2 Smooth Plane   This example of a Stanley #2 smooth plane by Stanley Rule & Level Co. was produced before 1955 & after WWII. It shows some signs of wear but is in nice overall condition.  The japanning is over 90%. The handles are nice noting the typical yellowing  and crackling of the original finish. It would look a lot better with an oiling / wax which tends to make that blend in and disappear.

Stanley # 2 C Corrugated Smooth Plane  This Stanley #2C corrugated smooth plane is in nice condition.It has developed a nice even patina and there is just minor pitting and staining on the sole and one side. #2's can sometimes be hard to date or type, but this one with its V trademark logo cutter makes it a type 11, dating from between 1910 and 1918. Its cutter is nice and near full length.The rosewood handle is nice. The bottom has been lapped, and the same could be done to the sides to make it look even better. The japanning is over 90% and the cap is very nice. I guarantee the grooves to be "right".   A pretty nice example  of a very hard to find plane.

Stanley # 2 Smooth Plane  This Stanley #2 smooth plane is in very nice condition.It has developed a nice even patina and there is no rust or pitting to speak of. #2's can sometimes be hard to date or type, but this one with its original T trademark logo cutter was helpful in pinpointing the type # 10. That logo makes it a  type 10 dating from between 1907 and 1909 after which the logo on the cutter was again changed.

This plane has no condition issues and is about as nice as one could ask for. Its cutter is nice and full length.The rosewood handle has nearly all of its original finish as does the nice low knob. The japanning is over 95% and the cap is very nice as well.As I said, no apologies. A top shelf example nice enough for any collection.

Stanley No. 2 Smooth Plane  Stanley No. 2 planes are sometimes difficult to accurately date or type exactly, and this one fits that concept.

This No. 2 has a very nice straight slot lever cap of a 1930s type 15 or before. The kidney shape cap was introduced with type 16 in 1933. It has a BB logo cutter that was first introduced in the mid 1930s.

Other notable features of this No. 2 are there is no Stanley stamp of any sort on the Stanley type lateral. Also the sole is full length under the handle w/ no tab of earlier No. 2s

Lots of original japanning on the body. Nice full length BB logo cutter. Nice Rosewood handle & knob. Little or no rust or pitting.

All in all a pretty nice No. 2, and a somewhat odd ball variation at the same time.

Stanley # 2 First Lateral Type 5 Smooth Plane   This type 5 plane with the first lateral was only made for about 3 years from 1885 - 1888.  The overall condition is very nice. The rear handle has been glued, and it was repainted and lapped at some point. There is no damage, and the throat is OK. Check all the pics. A must have for the complete Stanley #2 collection.

Stanley # 2 C Smooth Plane  This example of the hard to find Stanley # 2C smooth plane has a light coating of the gloss lacquer that the collector use to coat the majority of his planes with to prevent rust. It will come off with a bath of denatured alcohol or steel wool and paint thinner.

It has been said that corrugated Stanley # 2 size planes are harder to find than the popular and pricey #1 Stanley planes.  Because of this some greedy and unscrupulous sellers have gone to the extreme of having grooves cut in to regular smooth bottom examples. Some were done very well and are hard to tell from originals, others were poorly done. I guarantee that the grooves in this are factory and that it is "right".

There is no pitting or damage. The wood is nice noting that it appears the top of the tote has been reshaped a bit. Also I believe a proper sweetheart era cutter has been installed as it has a different new like patina. . The japanning is approximately 90%. A hard to find plane in good +  condition.

Stanley No. 2 C Corrugated Bottom Smooth Plane  Nice enough! 80% or better original japanned finish. Near full length cutter with Q logo dates it from approx. 1892 - 1906. The top of the cutter has some pitting. There is ever so lite pitting on the sides as well. The good looking proper Rosewood Handle has been glued about 1/2 way up. A pretty nice example of a hard to find Stanley smooth plane.

Stanley No. 2 C Corrugated Bottom Sweetheart Era Smooth Plane Very nice overall condition. # 2 Stanley planes can be hard to date exactly or type as they did not have the same changes as say a #4 did. With the nice, near full length AA Sweetheart logo cutter, and tall front knob this No 2 C plane dates from as early as 1923 and a type 12 to no later than the mid 1930s when the design of the lever cap changed with a Type 16.

The wood is very nice. Well over 95% of the original japanning. It is not pitted and there are no other issues. Different references claim that 2 C planes are harder to come by than the legendary Stanley # 1s that are bringing record prices these days. Looking at recent eBay results it seems No. 2s have been doing quite well as well. I guarantee the grooves / corrugations on this are "right" as well. Stanley / Defiance / Eclipse # 2 Smooth Plane  This is a later #2 with the cutter marked Eclipse. The collector had it in the Stanley collection and that is what the red tag on the side represents. I initially thought he was dreaming, but in looking through John Walters ID & price guide I see he was on to something. This is actually a quite rare and desirable # 2 size plane according to that reference.

It looks as though the front knob has been replaced, and the rear tote has been reglued. It is otherwise pretty nice.

Stanley # 2 Last Model  "Long" Smooth Plane   I saw an online type study that deals with all the fine points of this last model # 2 Stanley made between the years 1952 & 1964. I never realized there were subtle variations within the "long" series.   That info can be found at this link.   Bottom line they made a change adding about 1/2 " to the overall length depending on where you were measuring in 1952, and production of #2 size planes ended in 1964. Stanley Type 14 No. 3 C Corrugated Bottom Smooth Plane  This is a very nice type 14 No. 3 C size smooth plane that dates from 1929 - 1930 only according to the Roger Smith type study in John Walters Stanley price guide.

Stanley Post WWII Era Type 19 No. 3 Smooth Plane in Original Box This No. 3 Smooth plane is a type 19 and dates from shortly after WWII. It is in fine condition in the original box. It has very nice Rosewood handle and knob that Stanley reintroduced for a short period beginning in 1948. Type 19s marks the end of the era before Stanley's line of planes began a downward trend in quality and finish.

No need for restoration or refurbishing as this plane saw little to no use the last 70 or so years and is ready to go back to work. Full length cutter, nearly all the original japanning and finishes remain. It has the external frog adjustment. It is about as nice as one could ask for. Very nice!!!

Stanley Type 13 No. 3 Smooth Plane This is a very nice c. 1920s No. 3 size smooth plane. This is a very nice type 13 Sweetheart era smooth plane that dates from the mid 1920s. Lightly cleaned with nice patina.

Having just one patent date behind the frog makes it a type 13. Note that the brass adjuster is the smaller style of a type 11. The cutter is a nice, near full length V logo that type studies also say belongs in an earlier type 11 plane.

That said, the type study is for a # 4, and as has been pointed out many times, by many knowledgeable people, type studies are guides, not the final word. The body dates from the 20s, some other features from just before, and we will leave it at that.

It has a very nice Rosewood handle and knob. There is 90% or so of the original japanning, The plane has a nice even patina with no rust or pitting to mention. No other issues. No cracks, chips, other damage, or apologies, just normal typical wear.

Stanley Type 3 # 4 Smooth Plane  This Stanley #4 size type 3 smooth plane is in very nice condition. It is a rare type 3 with the unique Leonard Bailey Victor like frog design that was offered by Stanley for just one year. They are seen very seldomly. Stanley No. 4 Type 4 Prelateral Smooth Plane Pre Lateral type 4s are only marked inside the brass adjuster wheel and on the cutter. They date from 1874 - 1884. It has a nice proper era Rosewood handle. Near full length good cutter is a c. 1890s Q logo. The sides and sole were lightly lapped and the plane has been re-japanned. Stanley WWII Era Type 17 No. 4 Smooth Plane  Same as the Type 17 WWII era plane above with a couple subtle differences. This plane also sat on a shelf or in a collection for the last 75 + years and saw little to no use at any point in time. I had to clean off dried cosmoline. The overall condition is very nice.

It has the characteristic heavier casting of a WWII era plane. It is different from the WWII era plane offered above in that it does have the frog adjusting feature, and it has a steel cutter adjuster knob instead of a hard rubber or brass one. The Smith type study mentions these variations and notes they do not know the exact or order or time frame offered.

The are no structural issues and little to no rust or pitting. Full length cutter w/ original grind. The handle & knob are very nice. A piece of history and great user for the money. Nice!!

Stanley No. 4 Smooth Plane The type 19 marks the end of an era when Stanley put out a quality plane. This post WWII type 19 plane sat on a shelf in a collection for the last 50 to 60 or so years and saw little use before that. The overall condition is very nice.

Stanley No. 4 1/2 C Type 13 Corrugated Bottom Smooth Plane This 4 1/2 is a nice oversize smooth plane and will be a great user. It has seen use and there has been losses to the japanning. There is some very light pitting but the overall condition is still nice. The sole lapped and being re-japanned would go a long way toward making it a much nicer looking plane.

It dates from the 1920s during the height of Stanley putting out a quality and nicely featured plane for workers of the day, and todays collectors and users.

The Rosewood handle and low knob have been refinished and are beautiful. The body has just one patent date of a type 13 behind the frog. The later BB logo cutter is near full length and nice. The plane has the external frog adjustment. It has a low front knob of a type 12 or earlier. The brass adjust nut is small and from a type 11 or earlier. In other words the body, with just one patent date is a type 13 with some earlier components. A typical situation probably explained by Stanley using earlier parts on newer models. Stanley No. 4 1/2 C Corrugated Bottom Smooth Plane This 4 1/2 is pretty nice. It is in very good original condition.

The plane has been lightly cleaned. There is no rust, heavy pitting or other issues to mention. The period Rosewood handle is beautiful. It and the knob are both good. The Pat 92 logo cutter is good, near full length and has been sharpened.

It is a type 9 and dates from right around the turn of the century give or take. No issues or apologies. Perfect for the collection, or a great reasonably priced user.

Stanley # 4 1/2 Extra Large Jack Plane  This No. 4 1/2 Stanley Extra Large Jack plane is a Type 7 that dates from just before the turn of the century. It has a nice 2 3/8" cutter in it with the patent 92 logo. Nice wood tote, and tight crack in front knob. There are no structural issues and little to no rust or pitting. A nice looking plane.

Stanley No. 4 1/2 C Type 10 Corrugated Bottom Smooth Plane This is a very nice extra large 4 1/2 C plane. It was on the collectors workbench as a user, not a shelf, and so is a bit dusty. No rust, pitting, or other issues to mention.

The Rosewood handle and knob are beautiful. The T logo cutter is proper and near full length and nice. It is a type 10 given the cutter logo and external frog adjuster. The plane dates from shortly after the turn of the century, during the height of Stanley putting out a quality finished and featured plane, for workers of the day, and todays collectors and users.

Stanley # 4 1/2 C Extra Wide Corrugated Bottom Smooth Plane  This #4 1/2 C corrugated smooth plane is a Type 7 dating it from right around the turn of the century.The graceful Rosewood handle and knob look good. There is well over 80% of the finish and this plane has been carefully and tastefully cleaned and lapped. A nice plane that will be a great user.

Stanley #4 1/2 Pre Lateral Type 4 Smooth Plane   This is a very early Stanley Type 4 # 4 1/2 that dates from 1884 when they first introduced this size plane. I believe it has a replaced rear handle, but it is very early. The rest of the plane is in pretty nice condition with the collectors trade mark coat of lacquer to help preserve it.  The recessed nut w/ patent info is proper. The cap is right. There is little to no rust or pitting to speak of.   A hard to find early model that deserves a place on the shelf in the collection.

Stanley 4 1/2 Large Smooth Plane  The body is sound with no cracks, chips, pitting or other issues, and there is lots of original japanning. This later 4 1/2 does have a couple of apologies though. The Rosewood handle has been re-glued. Also whoever sharpened the cutter last must have been blind or fell asleep at the wheel. It has a deep hollow ground a good 1/4" up from the bottom edge. I put a decent clean edge on the leading edge, but am not sure how it is going to go the next couple times it needs to be sharpened. I can add a better cutter for $30.00. An otherwise pretty nice example.

Stanley No. 5 Type 17 WWII Era Jack Plane  A WWII era type 17 No. 5 jack plane. The overall condition is very nice. It has the extra heavy duty / thick casting some of these WWII era planes have. It also has the steel adjuster wheel instead of brass.

Stanley #5 Jack Plane  The condition of this type 16 jack plane is about as nice as one could ask for. It looks to have been used once and put up on a shelf. In a dry local. It has not been cleaned or otherwise fiddled with in any way. Japanning is 98% if not 100%. Rosewood handle and knob look great with near 100% of the original finishes.

Type 16 planes date from 1933 to just prior to the beginning of WWII. The cutter is marked with the patent number for the kidney shaped hole in the lever cap which was introduced in 1933. A super nice example from an era becoming harder and harder to find nice examples from. Few nicer!!

Stanley introduced and displayed this "Two Tone" line of planes at the National Hardware Conventions in the 40s and again in the 50s. This example dates from the second showing. Another post WWII Stanley offering for America's new consumer, the Happy Homeowner / Weekend Warrior. This is marked only on the cutter. It has a typical design frog and lever cap just not as well done as their earlier offerings geared toward craftsmen. Perfect for the collection, or perhaps today's casual user.

Stanley 5 1/4 Junior Jack Plane This pre WWII No. 5 1/4 junior jack plane is in fine condition. The cutter is long and nice noting its top edge had been turned a bit from the pervious owner using the hammer tap method of blade adjustment. It has been filed a bit to remove the curl and make it nicer.

Stanley # 5 1/2 H  Heavy Jack Plane  This is a pretty hard to find Stanley bench plane. They were first introduced in 1902 and production ended in 1924. They were produced mainly to satisfy or influence the English market so as to be closer in weight or heft to English infil panel planes of the same size. Basically the sole and side rails were cast thicker and the plane is heavier because of it. They are only proper when marked on the casting with a H. Stanley also offered these H series planes in the 4 1/2 size.

This plane is all original and in nice overall condition.  It appears to be a type 9 w/o the external frog adjusting feature. The cutter has over 3/4 of life left.  The rosewood handle has been glued and has an interesting repair running up the back of it. It is solid and looks fine. The japanning is 90% or so. The throat is nice. With a replacement cutter and different but proper handle this unusual plane would easily rate as fine.   Different & nice!!

Stanley # 7 C Corrugated Bottom Jointer Plane  This looks to be a type 10 - 11 with a slightly later lever cap which could be "right" as Stanley did not adhere to type studies as they produced planes using parts from different eras to fill orders. This is a well known fact.

Stanley Type 2 # 7 Jointer Plane  This is a nice example of a hard to find plane. Even more so in this nice condition. Everything is proper.

Stanley manufactured these early type 2 planes between the years 1869 and 1872. The main difference between a type 1 & type 2 plane is the shape of the spring on the solid lever cap. Both type 1 & type 2 planes are very uncommon and hard to find. They are a testament to American workmanship and quality. Stanley carried on that tradition for a number of years making small changes to the design and so we have type studies that allow one to pretty closely date these tools.  A fine example that deserves a place on the shelf.

Stanley No. 7 C Type 9 Corrugated Bottom Jointer Plane This 7C jointer plane is structurally sound and in good overall condition. It is a type 9 dating from just after the turn of the century.

The original japanning has been enhanced and looks good. There is some ever so light texture on the sides. The original Rosewood handle has been refinished and looks OK. The proper era cutter is OK and has plenty of life left in it. A good user at a good price!!

Stanley No.7 C Corrugated Bottom Jointer Plane This Stanley No. 7 C looks great. In most respects it has characteristics of a type 15 from the early 30s. It has a very nice proper full length Sweetheart logo cutter that has a double stamp, one over the other. It has a plain lever cap of a type 12 or earlier. The Rosewood handle and tall knob are very nice.

The oddity is the twisted lateral like those found on Stanley made Keen Kutter and Winchester planes Stanley made for Simmons, Winchester and other tool distributers. It looks original and not a replacement. I have no explanation for that.

The japanning looks to have been redone and looks great. No structural damage or issues. Clean and nice. A top shelf example condition wise that will be a great user!

Stanley Type 13 #7 C Corrugated Bottom Jointer Plane  A beautiful Sweetheart era plane that represents the end of an era. It has just 1 patent date from 1910 behind the frog making it a type 13. This jointer plane dates from 1925 - 1928.  It is all original and never been fiddled with. Well over 95% of the original japanning. Light rust from the recent damp climate it is in that will easily clean w/o pitting. No apologies here.  A super plane.

Stanley Rule & Level Co. No. 7 C Corrugated Bottom Jointer Plane c. 1902 - 07 Type 9  This # 7 C is a type 9 and dates from shortly after the turn of the century. This is a nice plane overall. It is a type 9 that dates from shortly after the turn of the century.

Rosewood handle has small chip at top. Low knob is nice. Long nice, proper marked 92 patent - Q trademark cutter. Lots of original japanning. There are some areas of light pitting on the sole and one side. No structural damage or other issues.

Stanley Type 4 Pre Lateral # 7 Jointer Plane  This is a nice example of a hard to find plane. Type 4 planes were offered for about 10 years beginning in 1874. The main differences between type 1 & type 2 planes and the type 4 are that the lever cap is now recessed, and the brass adjusting nut is no longer solid.

This plane is in nice condition. Lots of life left in the proper cutter,  Handle and knob are OK. Little or no rust or pitting, just a nice even 100 + year patina. A nice example that deserves a place on the shelf or can be put back to use.

Stanley Four Square Junior Jack Plane  Overall condition is very nice. Tastefully cleaned. The 4 Square 5 1/4 size jack plane was offered from the 1920s - 1930 and aimed at the casual user. It is the same as a typical 5 1/4 and was offered in several finishes during its short life span. Nice!!

Stanley Four Square Junior Jack Plane (5 1/4)  Stanley produced their line of 4 Square planes from approx. 1923 to 1930. The lines demise can be attributed to several factors. The economy, the depression and looming war were major factors.

This is an early example. The handle and knob are very nice. The cutter has the proper Sweetheart logo, and is long and good. The pebble cap is a nice touch. A pretty nice example all in all.

Stanley 1105 Victor Jack Plane  This Victor Jack Plane is near mint. Finding them this nice is a rare occurrence, these days, even if the plane itself is not all that rare. Stanley S 4 Steel Smooth Plane This is a pretty nice example of a Stanley S 4 first introduced in 1925. This line of planes made of folded steel as opposed to cast iron was produced up to 1942 and the start of WWII. This example with rivets is an earlier version. It has a Sweetheart era cutter in it, and a nice decaled Rosewood handle.

There has been losses to the japanning as is typical. No structural issues. Very light pitting as is also typical. Nice enough for the collection, or a good user!!

Stanley # S4 Steel Smooth Plane  Stanley introduced there line of steel planes in the mid 20's when they stopped making the liberty bell line of planes. They offered them in the number 4 size, as well as the number 5 and a high angle block plane, and a high angle denoted as the S18.   They were only made for 15 or so years. They were aimed at schools, and for applications where there was a likelihood of them being dropped as the steel body would not crack or break like the cast iron counterpart.  A nice plane that will be a great user or is nice enough for the shelf

Stanley S4 Steel Smooth Plane Stanley first started offering this model plane in 1926, and ended production with the beginning of WWII in 1941. Meant for use in locals such as schools or manual training classes where damage was likely to occur if dropped as the steel sides would not crack or break.  As is typical there is not much paint left. Front knob looks to be a replacement, and there is a bit of loss to the top of the rear handle. The rest is OK.

Stanley Two Tone # OH 4 Smooth Plane The condition of this unusual variation on the theme is about as nice as one could ask for.  Stanley offered their line of Two -Tone Planes first in 1941, and again in 1951 at national hardware conventions. Not sure how they marketed them after that, or where. No doubt an appeal to the eye of the new buyer consumer Stanley was aiming for. America's Happy Homeowner / Weekend Warrior. The only place they are marked Stanley is on the cutter.

It would be a real challenge to collect all the different colors these came in. Here is a good start for the collection.

Stanley # 104  Liberty Bell Steel Smooth Plane  The #104 was first issued in 1876 to commemorate the Centennial. It was discontinued in 1919 after the war. WWI that is. It has a steel body. From the cutter logo we can assume this is a type 2 and dates from before 1907. It has been tastefully, and carefully cleaned and rehabbed. It looks great.

It is the size of a # 5 jack plane. Has a full length proper marked cutter. Nice wood, and it will clean to be very nice..

Stanley No. S5 Steel Jack Plane Stanley produced their line of Steel body planes from approx. 1926 to 1942. This is an earlier model given the rivets. The handle is a replacement. Stanley # A 5 Aluminum Jack Plane  This A 5 Jack Plane dates from the mid 20's to mid 30's. It has a great rosewood handle and is in overall very nice condition. There are not any deep scratches or other problems. It is all original and very nice. These Aluminum planes are more a collectible in most peoples mind for several reasons. They are lighter, softer, and prone to scratches. Improper storage will result in "rot". A nice example for the collection!!

3 Stanley Aluminum Bench Planes  Stanley made and sold a few different Aluminum planes and other tools back in the 20's and 30's. They made an aluminum version of the #18 block plane, the  #78 and the #45, some levels, a brace, as well as these three different size bench planes, the A4, the A5,  & the A6. 

Each of these planes is pretty nice with no major detractions. They are quite soft, and can oftentimes be found with deep scratches in the soles or sides, but these 3 examples are pretty nice. Each has been fitted with one of Stanley's aftermarket aluminum handles that were typically offered separately.  I suppose the collector felt they better represented the flavor of the aluminum planes and he probably swapped them out just for the look.

Stanley # 104 Liberty Bell Smooth Plane  Overall condition is very nice. Offered from 1876 - 1918 to commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The body is folded and riveted steel. The lever adjuster is good. Cutter has T trademark and late style cap screw making it a later model. Lite rust on chip breaker cutter cap that will clean. Nice!!

Stanley Gage G 3 C Corrugated Bottom Smooth Plane Stanley introduced this line of metal bodied planes after buying out the Gage Tool Co of Vineland NJ in about 1919. They were meant to compete with the line of planes known as Auto Sets that Sargent was putting onto the market. Given the G3 Designation, and the patent info cast into the bed, this would be considered a ype 3 dating from the 1930's. They were never a great success with the user crowd of the day given you could buy a Bedrock for about the same money. Overall nice condition.

Stanley / Gage # G3 C Corrugated Self Setting Smooth Plane  This G3 Gage jack plane is in overall nice condition. It has a wonderful Rosewood handle and original knob. The tag indicates it came from Bob Kaune back in the late 90's. The sides and sole look to have been Kauneized as it has come to be known. The paint is about 85% and has been overcoated with the collectors trademark coat of clear finish. As pictured, and as found.

OVB / Gage # 7 Self Setting Jointer Plane This G7 Gage jointer plane is in overall nice condition. The cutter is marked OVB for Our Very Best. Hibbard, Spencer & Bartlett, a Midwest hardware co. used OVB as their logo for tools they offered.Stanley made it, and only the cutter marking differentiates it from a Stanley. The paint is about 95% or better.As pictured, and as found.

Stanley / Gage No. 7 C Corrugated Bottom Jointer Plane Stanley bought out the Gage Tool Co. of Vineland NJ. who had offered a line of wood body / transitional planes.

In 1919 Stanley introduced a line of metal bodied planes with the same frog / cutter adjustment design that the original Gage wood body planes had.The Gage 7C was only produced for about 15 years - between 1923 and 1938. Production of all sizes ceased with the beginning of WWII

It has been said the Stanley Gage line of planes was created to compete with Sargent's line of Auto Set planes that are similar in look and design. Some loss to the japanning. Good long cutter. Good wood. No structural problems or issues. A pretty nice example!!

Stanley No. 21 Transitional Smooth Plane The No. 21 is the smallest size transitional plane Stanley offered and one of the hardest to find. This example is in fine condition and dates from before 1900 given its features. A very nice example of a hard to find Stanley Transitional plane for use or the collection.

1993 Stanley Tools 150 Year Anniversary Restored # 26 Transitional Plane  Just what every Stanley tool collection needs. The brass plaque is marked that this is # 682 of 2000 produced. Stanley issued a number of different tools for this celebration / meeting back in 1993. They were all sold out, and some drift back into the market now and again. A true Stanley collectible.

Stanley No. 37 "Jenny" Transitional Plane  One of the harder to find size Stanley transitional planes. Comparable to a No. 5 1/2 extra large jack plane. It dates from the around the turn of the century. The condition is exceptional. They just do not turn up this nice anymore or very often. Very Nice!!

Stanley Rule & Level Co.# 135 Liberty Bell Type 1 Transitional Smooth Plane A pretty nice example of a Type 1 # 135 dating from 1876 - 1886. Wood body is near full thickness noting the outside edges have been chamfered or rounded a bit. Nice, long 2 1/8" wide proper J logo marked cutter. Cutter adjuster works properly. Glued handle that looks good and could be made to look better. Clear Eagles stamp on nose. A tough plane to find, especially in this nice condition.

A pretty nice example. Wood body is near full thickness. Nice long 1 3/4" wide proper marked J logo cutter. Eagle stamp w/ # on nose. A tough plane to find, especially this early and in this nice condition.

Stanley # 32 Transitional Jointer Plane  Pretty nice. It is a Type 9 or 9A from the early 1890's. Full thickness sole. Handle glued and looks good. No other issues. Cleaned, Waxed, Tuned up - ready to go.

Stanley # 33 Transitional Jointer Plane Pretty nice. 28" long. Good wood handle & knob. Nice cutter w/ faint stamp. Full thickness body. I think it is a type 11 from just after the turn of the century.

The collector added a coat of clear finish to a plane that did not need it. It has a layer of dust on it from sitting on a shelf for the last 30 - 40 years. It wants to go back to work.

Stanley Rule & Level Co. No. 33 Type 6 Pre - Lateral Transitional Jointer Plane  This Stanley Rule & Level Co. No. 33 Transitional Jointer Plane in very nice condition. It is 28" long. It has the Eagle Stamp. The J logo cutter and being a pre lateral make it a type 6 dating it c. 1874 - 1884. Body is nice and thick, good throat, long good proper cutter, good handle & knob, etc. A very nice early plane.

Stanley Rule & Level Co. No. 132 Liberty Bell c. 1890 Transitional Jointer Plane  This Stanley No. 132 Liberty Bell Transitional Plane in very nice condition. The logo on the cutter and other features would date it from before 1890 or so. It is the largest Liberty Bell plane they offered. Body is 26" long and nice and thick. Good throat, proper marked long cutter, adjuster is good, Handle and knob are nice, etc. A very nice plane.

Stanley #127 Liberty Bell Jack Plane  The background story on these planes can be in many references. They were first issued in 1876, and production ceased in 1918 at the close of WWI. Stanley made 4 different sizes of this style transitional, and a couple of steel planes with this blade adjustment feature and "Liberty Bell" cap. This was the largest offered.

Stanley # 135 Liberty Bell Transitional Smooth Plane  This is a very nice condition Stanley "Liberty Bell transitional plane. Stanley introduced this line of planes in 1876 to commemorate the 100 anniversary of the Revolutionary War and Declaration of Independence. This is an earlier type with a strange cutter logo. Given that and the handle shape I assume this is a Type 1  They ended production in 1918. The adjuster is damage free.  Nice enough for the shelf!!

Stanley Rule & Level Co. No. 32 Type 6 Pre Lateral Transitional Jointer Plane  This Stanley Rule & Level Co. No. 32 Transitional Jointer Plane in very nice condition. It has features of a type 6 from the 1874 - 1884. It is 26" long. Body is nice and thick with a hard finish on it. It has a good throat, a long good cutter, nice handle etc. No apologies, no issues. A very nice example.

Stanley No. 33 Type 5 Pre Lateral Transitional Jointer Plane This Type 5 Pre Lateral Jointer is in fine condition and is nicest condition early No. 33 I have ever seen or had. It dates from 1872 - 1875 according to the type study. All features match the type study.

The No. 33 is 28" long and has a 2 5/8" cutter. It is the second longest transitional plane Stanley offered and one of the harder to find. A very nice example of a hard to find Stanley Transitional plane in exceptional condition for the collection.

Stanley Rule & Level Co. # 129 Liberty Bell c. 1910 Transitional Fore Plane  This Stanley Rule & Level Co. # 129 Liberty Bell Transitional Plane in very nice condition. The V logo on the cutter would date it c. 1910 - 1918 and near the end of their production. Body nice and thick, original finish, good throat, long cutter, adjuster good, etc. A very nice plane.

Stanley / Gage # 28 Transitional Fore Plane   After buying out the Gage firm of Vineland NJ Stanly continued producing this line of planes for about 15 years. They also introduced the Metal bodied Gage line to compete with Sergeants' Auto-Set line. This plane is in overall nice condition. The camera seemed to have a problem focusing on it, sorry about that.
