Stanley Type 4 Pre Lateral No 4 Smooth Plane This is a pretty nice example of an early Pre Lateral Type 4 smooth plane. It is in overall nice condition with nice patina. I basically just dusted it off. The handle has been glued. Cutter looks original with name stamp about gone. Lots of original japanning. Brass adjuster properly marked. Perfect for the collection.

Stanley Type 11 No 4 C Corrugated Bottom Smooth Plane  This is a nice condition early plane from the Heyday of Stanley's dominance over the tool and plane market.  It has all the characteristics of a Type 11 from just after the turn of the century over 100 years ago.  It is in super nice condition with just a hint of rust that most would call patina.  I left most of it and basically just dusted it off.  Full length nice proper logo cutter, Beautiful wood, 95% or better japanning, etc.  No issues, no apologies.  Perfect for the collection, or today's user.

Stanley WWII Era Type 17 No. 4 Smooth Plane  Same as the Type 17 WWII era plane above with a couple subtle differences. This plane also sat on a shelf or in a collection for the last 75 + years and saw little to no use at any point in time. I had to clean off dried cosmoline. The overall condition is very nice.

It has the characteristic heavier casting of a WWII era plane. It is different from the WWII era plane offered above in that it does have the frog adjusting feature, and it has a steel cutter adjuster knob instead of a hard rubber or brass one. The Smith type study mentions these variations and notes they do not know the exact or order or time frame offered.

The are no structural issues and little to no rust or pitting. Full length cutter w/ original grind. The handle & knob are very nice. A piece of history and great user for the money. Nice!!

Stanley Type 19 # 4 Smooth Plane   This is a type 19 and dates from post WWII and before 1958 as it has a Rosewood handle and knob.   The original japanning is 98% or better.  The full length cutter is nice w/ original grind.  No issues, no apologies.  This plane saw little if any use.  A very nice plane and from the end of the era when Stanley put out a pretty nice tool.

Stanley Type 15 No. 4 Smooth Plane This is a very nice c. early 1930s No. 4 size smooth plane. Lightly cleaned. The plane is in very nice overall condition with a nice even patina. The Sweetheart logo cutter is nice and near full length. Sides of frog have original orange finish. Good original Rosewood handle and knob.

Nice Rosewood handle and knob. 90% or so japanning, No issues, cracks, chips, damage or other apologies, just normal typical wear. Perfect for the collection, or today's user.

Stanley Type 11 No 4 Smooth Plane This is a beautiful c. 1910 smooth plane. It is in super nice condition with nice patina. I basically just dusted it off. Nice full length cutter w/ T logo the type study says is a type 10. It has 3 patent dates behind the frog of a type 11.  Beautiful Rosewood, 95% or better japanning, etc. No issues, no apologies. Perfect for the collection, or today's user.

Stanley # 4 1/2 C Corrugated Bottom Smooth Plane  Very nice condition. Original japanning is 95% or better.  Nice Rosewood handle & knob.  This planes main features date it from before 1900.   It has a nice cutter from shortly after 1900.  A workhorse.

Stanley # 4 1/2 C Corrugated Bottom Extra Large Smooth Plane   This plane has features of a type 10 & 11.  The plane is in nice condition noting some light pitting.  Very nice handle.  90% or more of the japanning.  The sole looks good.  It has the external frog adjuster.  About an inch of life left in the cutter.  Nice!!

Stanley # 4 1/2 Extra Large Jack Plane  This No. 4 1/2 Stanley Extra Large Jack plane is a Type 7 that dates from just before the turn of the century. It has a nice 2 3/8" cutter in it with the patent 92 logo. Nice wood tote, and tight crack in front knob. There are no structural issues and little to no rust or pitting. A nice looking plane.

Stanley # 4 1/2 Extra Large Smooth Plane  This plane is a pre WWII type 16.  The original japanning is 85% or better.  The near full length cutter has pitting on the top front side, but not on the lower back where it matters..  Good Rosewood tote & knob noting finish loss.  No structural issues.  Some texture on sole that will not matter or will easily lap out.  A great user. Pretty nice!!

Stanley # 4 1/2 Extra Large Smooth Plane   This plane is near dead mint.  It looks to be a type 16 dating it from the 30's to just before WWII..   It has never been cleaned or fiddled with. The nice looking Rosewood handle and knob have nearly all their original finish.  Good throat, no rust, pitting or other casting problems to speak of.   You will not find a nicer example.

Stanley # 4 1/2 C Corrugated Smooth Plane  This plane looks to be a type 9 dating it from the 1902 - 1907 according to the type study.. It has a nice later full length cutter in it.  The Rosewood handle has been glued and looks pretty nice.  Good throat, no rust, pitting or other casting problems to speak of.   A good user that will perform well once tuned and sharpened.

Stanley # 4 1/2 C Extra Wide Corrugated Bottom Smooth Plane  This #4 1/2 C corrugated smooth plane is a Type 7 dating it from right around the turn of the century. The graceful Rosewood handle and knob look good.  The cutter is near full length and has the Q / Pat 92 logo.  There is well over 80% of the finish and this plane has been carefully and tastefully cleaned and lapped.  A nice plane that will be a great user.

Stanley #4 1/2 Pre Lateral Type 4 Smooth Plane   This is a very early Stanley Type 4 # 4 1/2 that dates from 1884 when they first introduced this size plane.  I believe it has a replaced rear handle, but it is very early.  The rest of the plane is in pretty nice condition with the collectors trade mark coat of lacquer to help preserve it.   The recessed nut w/ patent info is proper.  The cap is right.  There is little to no rust or pitting to speak of.    A hard to find early model that deserves a place on the shelf in the collection.

Stanley 4 1/2 Large Smooth Plane  The body is sound with no cracks, chips, pitting or other issues, and there is lots of original japanning. This later 4 1/2 does have a couple of apologies though. The Rosewood handle has been re-glued. Also whoever sharpened the cutter last must have been blind or fell asleep at the wheel. It has a deep hollow ground a good 1/4" up from the bottom edge. I put a decent clean edge on the leading edge, but am not sure how it is going to go the next couple times it needs to be sharpened. I can add a better cutter for $30.00. An otherwise pretty nice example.

Stanley No. 4 1/2 Extra Large Smooth Plane This is a type 13 that dates from the 1920s or over 100 years ago. The original japanning is 90% or better. One patent date behind the frog. It has the external frog adjusting feature. The near full length Sweetheart era logo cutter is nice. Good period Rosewood Tote & tall front knob. No structural issues. A nice example.

Stanley # 4 1/2 Extra Large Smooth Plane  This is a Type 16 that dates from before WWII.   The cutter is long, nice, and proper.  Lots of original japanning.  No structural issues.  The Rosewood knob and handle are beautiful and from near the end of the era for these.  It has been lightly cleaned.  Nice enough for the collection or will be a great user.  Very Nice!!

Stanley No. 4 1/2 Extra Large Smooth Plane  This is a type 11 and dates from approx. 1910 - 1918. The original japanning is 90% or better. It has the frog adjusting feature. The near full length cutter has the proper V logo and is very nice.

Good overall patina and no structural issues. Good throat area. The handle has a small loss at the top, and has been glued near the bottom. Overall a very nice plane from when Stanley was putting out their best workmanship..

Stanley # 4 1/2 Extra Large Smooth Plane   This is a Type 5 First Lateral that dates from 1885 - 1888 according to the type study.  The overall condition is nice.   Used but not abused.  Kind of a hard plane to find in the scheme of things.

Stanley # 5 Jack Plane   This looks to be a Type 16 pre WWII era plane.  It is in very nice overall condition.  The proper rosewood handles are nice.  It has the external frog adjuster.  The cutter is from an earlier era and is near full length.  Little or no rust or pitting to speak of.  No other apologies to speak of.    A nice plane that will be a good user.

Stanley #5 Jack Plane  The condition of this type 16 jack plane is about as nice as one could ask for.  It looks to have been used once and put up on a shelf.  In a dry local. It has not been cleaned or otherwise fiddled with in any way.  Japanning is 98% if not 100%.  Rosewood handle and knob look great with near 100% of the original finishes.

Type 16 planes date from 1933 to just prior to the beginning of WWII.  The cutter is marked with the patent number for the kidney shaped hole in the lever cap which was introduced in 1933.  A super nice example from an era becoming harder and harder to find nice examples from.  Few nicer!!

Stanley Type 14 #5 Smooth Bottom Jack Plane Here is a nice type 14 Stanley Jack Plane dating from approx. 1929 - 1930.  95 % or so of the original japanning.  No rust or pitting. Cosmetic scratches on sole.  Good throat, nice full length later cutter, beautiful Rosewood handle w/ decal.  No condition issues and ready to use.

Stanley #5 Type 4 Pre Lateral Jack Plane  This is a nice early example. The bed is not marked, and only the cutter / chip breaker and inside the brass nut are marked.  The handle looks like an early and well done replacement.  It is Rosewood.  No other problems.  Clean it and display it.  Nice.

Stanley Type 13 # 5 C Corrugated Bottom Jack Plane This # 5 Jack Plane is a Sweetheart era type 13. It dates from 1925 - 1928. A very nice condition plane that has seen lite use. Lightly cleaned w/ little rust or pitting.

90% or better original japanning. No chips, cracks, breaks, or other damage to the plane body. Good throat area. Beautiful Rosewood handle & knob. The AA logo cutter is proper, nice, and near full length. Will be a great user!

Stanley # 5 C Corrugated Bottom Jack Plane   This is a very nice example of a # 5 jack plane that dates from just after the turn of the century.  That is approx. 120 years old.  No rust, pitting, or other damage. It has a beautiful Rosewood handle.  The cutter is nice, proper, and near full length.  A very nice example!!

Stanley Type 13 No. 5 C Corrugated Bottom Jack Plane This # 5 C Jack Plane is a type 13 from shortly after the turn of the century, making it over 100 years old. A very nice condition plane that has seen some use. Little rust or pitting. No chips, cracks, breaks, or other damage to the plane body. Beautiful Rosewood handle. The cutter is proper, nice and near full length. 90% or better japanning. Type 10s are when Stanley first introduced the external frog adjusting feature. Nice enough for the collection or will be a great user!

Stanley OH5 Two Tone Jack Plane  The overall condition is about as nice as one could ask for. Stanley introduced and displayed this "Two Tone" line of planes at the National Hardware Conventions in the 40s and again in the 50s.  This example dates from the second showing.  Another post WWII Stanley offering for America's new consumer, the Happy Homeowner / Weekend Warrior. This is marked only on the cutter.  It has a typical design frog and lever cap just not as well done as their earlier offerings geared toward craftsmen.  Perfect for the collection, or perhaps today's casual user.

Stanley # 5 1/4 Junior Jack Plane This # 5 1/4 Junior Jack Plane is a type 19 and dates from post WWII. It has a long proper era cutter. A good solid user plane that has seen light use. Spots of rust or pitting. No damage to the plane body. No structural issues. It has a nice Rosewood handle and knob. It has the external frog adjusting feature. It will make for a good user!

Stanley 5 1/4 C Corrugated Bottom Junior Jack Plane  Very nice original condition!!  It features make it a pre WWII type 12 Sweetheart Era and from near the beginning of their short 20 year production period.  Good rosewood handle & knob with minimal finish loss.  Cap is near perfect, and the japanning is 95% or better.  Few nicer!!  A hard variation to find as the corrugated version of this plane does not turn up near as often as the smooth version.  .

Stanley #5 1/4 C Corrugated Bottom Junior Jack Plane  Very nice. Original japanning is 95% or better.  Nice Rosewood handle & knob.  The corrugated version of the 5 1/4 jack plane were not made for long, from approx. 1920s up to WWII when production ended, and are pretty hard to find.

Stanley # 5 1/2 H  Heavy Jack Plane  This is a pretty hard to find Stanley bench plane.  They were first introduced in 1902 and production ended in 1924.  They were produced mainly to satisfy or influence the English market so as to be closer in weight or heft to English infil panel planes of the same size.  Basically the sole and side rails were cast thicker and the plane is heavier because of it. They are only proper when marked on the casting with a H.  Stanley also offered these H series planes in the 4 1/2 size.

This plane is all original and in nice overall condition.   It appears to be a type 9 w/o the external frog adjusting feature.  The cutter has over 3/4 of life left.   The rosewood handle has been glued and has an interesting repair running up the back of it.  It is solid and looks fine.  The japanning is 90% or so.  The throat is nice.  With a replacement cutter and different but proper handle this unusual plane would easily rate as fine.    Different & nice!!

Stanley No. 5 1/2 C Extra Large Jack Plane This No. 5 1/2 C Corrugated Bottom Extra Large Stanley Jack plane is a Sweetheart era type 12. Good Rosewood handle and knob, long proper and nice marked Sweetheart era cutter. Lots of original japanning. Little to no rust or pitting. No damage or issues.

Lightly cleaned. No need for restorations or rehabs here. It is a very nice c. 1920 100 plus year old plane ready to go back to work or is nice enough for the collection. A nice plane will make for a great user!

Stanley No. 5 1/2 C Corrugated Bottom Large Jack Plane  This is a pre WWII c. 1920 Type 12 Sweetheart Era No. 5 1/2 C Jack Plane. It has a long proper era cutter. A good solid user plane that has seen use. No damage to the plane body. No structural issues. The Rosewood handle is period and good. It has the external frog adjusting feature. Sole is nice! Stanley # 5 1/2 Extra Large Jack Plane  This No. 5 1/2 Stanley Extra Large Jack plane is a post WWII model. It is a USA model. Nice wood with nearly perfect finish. 95% or better of the original black finish. The owner installed a Erik Anton Berg cutter in it. Shows little to no signs of use or wear. It will make for a great user!

Stanley Type 1 # 6 Fore Plane  This is a type 1 Stanley # 6 dating from 1867 - 1869.  The rear tote is probably a replacement and the properly marked cutter is a bit short  The rest of the plane is pretty nice and looks to be "right" including the banjo cap.  A hard to find early plane that will be a welcome addition to any advanced collection.

Stanley No. 6 C Corrugated Bottom Fore Plane  This nice looking corrugated bottom 6 C matches the characteristics of a type 15 dating from the early 1930s. Some losses to the japanning, but otherwise a very nice example. Great Rosewood, long cutter, no damage or issues, etc. A nice plane.

Stanley Type 19 # 7 Jointer Plane   This is a type 19 and dates from post WWII and before 1958 as it has a Rosewood handle and knob. The original japanning is 98% or better. Stanley Type 2 # 7 Jointer Plane  Very early, and very nice.  Stanley manufactured these planes between the years 1869 and 1872.   They are very uncommon.  Even more so in this nice condition.  Everything is proper.

Stanley # 7 C Corrugated Bottom Jointer Plane  This looks to be a type 10 - 11 with a slightly later lever cap which could be "right" as Stanley did not adhere to type studies as they produced planes using parts from different eras to fill orders.  This is a well known fact.

The japanning is 95% or better.   It is not pitted or rusty.  Nice full length cutter with proper era marked cutter. Good wood.  Good throat.  No casting damage or other problems.  It has the external frog adjusting feature.  Tuned and sharpened it will be a great user at a fraction of the cost of a new plane by one of the current makers.  Ready to go back to work.

Stanley # 7 Jointer Plane The condition of this Stanley #7 smooth jointer plane is second to none.  It is a sweetheart era and looks as though it was never used.  Others may cost more, but none will operate better than a regular old Stanley bench plane when properly tuned.   It will make a great user or is nice enough for the shelf..

Stanley #7 C Corrugated Bottom Jointer Plane   This early #7 Stanley jointer is in good condition. The wood is nice. It has a nice long cutter, and it will be a fine user or is nice enough for the shelf.

Stanley Type 2 # 7 Jointer Plane  This is a nice example of a hard to find plane. Even more so in this nice condition.  Everything is proper.

Stanley manufactured these early type 2 planes between the years 1869 and 1872.  The main difference between a type 1 & type 2 plane is the shape of the spring on the solid lever cap.  Both type 1 & type 2 planes are very uncommon and hard to find.  They are a testament to American workmanship and quality.  Stanley carried on that tradition for a number of years making small changes to the design and so we have type studies that allow one to pretty closely date these tools.   A fine example that deserves a place on the shelf.

Stanley #7 Jointer Plane   A type 14 sweetheart era plane dating from 1929 - 1930.  Super original condition.   As nice as one could ask for.  Decaled Rosewood Handle.  Full length Sweetheart era cutter.  95% or better of original japanning.  Some stains, no rust or pitting.  No apologies!!

Stanley Type 13 #7 C Corrugated Bottom Jointer Plane  A beautiful Sweetheart era plane that represents the end of an era.  It has just 1 patent date from 1910 behind the frog making it a type 13.  This jointer plane dates from 1925 - 1928.   It is all original and never been fiddled with.  Well over 95% of the original japanning.  Light rust from the recent damp climate it is in that will easily clean w/o pitting.  No apologies here.   A super plane.

Stanley # 7 C Corrugated Bottom Jointer Plane  This # 7 C is a type 11 and dates from shortly after the turn of the century. It has a later BB Logo cutter in it. Nice Rosewood Handle & knob. Lots of original japanning. Small area of light pitting on sole. No structural damage, or other issues. It will be a good user!

Stanley # 7 Type 9 Jointer Plane  This is a type 9 and dates from 1902 -1907 according to the Roger Smith type study in John Walters Stanley book. The original condition is very nice. Nice period Rosewood handle & knob. Near full length proper era cutter. Original japanning is 80% with some losses & bubbling near the handle. No structural issues. Ready for the shop or collection.

I retook the pics, so there are a lot w/ some repeats. I thought something looked off in the first ones, but the second set are pretty much the same.  All in all it is a pretty nice plane.

Stanley Rule & Level Co. No. 7 C Corrugated Bottom Jointer Plane c. 1902 - 07 Type 9  This # 7 C is a type 9 and dates from shortly after the turn of the century. This is a nice plane overall. It is a type 9 that dates from shortly after the turn of the century.

Rosewood handle has small chip at top. Low knob is nice. Long nice, proper marked 92 patent - Q trademark cutter. Lots of original japanning. There are some areas of light pitting on the sole and one side. No structural damage or other issues.

This is a pretty nice c. 1900 100 plus year old plane ready to go back to work.

Stanley Type 4 Pre Lateral # 7 Jointer Plane  This is a nice example of a hard to find plane. Type 4 planes were offered for about 10 years beginning in 1874.  The main differences between type 1 & type 2 planes and the type 4 are that the lever cap is now recessed, and the brass adjusting nut is no longer solid.

This plane is in nice condition.  Lots of life left in the proper cutter,  Handle and knob are OK.  Little or no rust or pitting, just a nice even 100 + year patina.  A nice example that deserves a place on the shelf or can be put back to use.

Stanley # 7 Jointer Plane  This No. 7 is a Type 10 pre WWI model that dates from 1907 - 1908. Nice wood. 90% or better of the original black finish. Has the external frog adjustment feature. Shows little wear or tear for an over 100 year old plane. It will make for a great user or is nice enough for the collection!

Stanley Rule & Level Co. No. 8 Type 9 Jointer Plane c. 1902 - 1907  This is a type 9 and dates from 1902 -1907 according to the Roger Smith type study in John Walters Stanley book. The original condition is very nice. Nice period Rosewood handle & knob. Near full length proper era cutter. Original japanning is over 90%. No issues and no apologies. Ready for the shop or collection.

Stanley Type 15 / 16  No 8 C Corrugated Bottom Jointer Plane  This is a nice condition pre WWII jointer plane. It has all the characteristics of a Type 15 w/ a type 16 cutter.  It is in super nice condition. I basically just dusted it off. Near full length nice cutter, Beautiful Rosewood, 95% or so original japanning, etc. A big heavy workhorse.

Stanley Type 9  No 8 Jointer Plane  This is a nice condition jointer plane. It has the characteristics of a Type 8 dating from just after the turn of the century w/ a later cutter.  It is in super nice condition. The full length cutter has been in it a long time.  Beautiful Rosewood, 80% or so original japanning, etc. No rust or pitting.  Lightly cleaned. A big heavy workhorse.

Stanley Type 16 # 8 Jointer Plane   This is a type 16 and dates from pre WWII. The original condition is exceptional. No need for rehabs or the like. It has very nice Rosewood handle and knob. The original japanning is 98% or better. The full length cutter is nice w/ original grind. No issues, no apologies. This plane saw very little use.  A very nice plane from the era when Stanley put out a top quality product. No apologies. Clean and Nice.

Stanley Type 2 # 8 Jointer Plane  Type 2 planes date from 1869 - 1872.  You do not find this early a plane in this nice condition very often.  While the japanning is light, as is often the case in these earlier models, a lot remains.  The Rosewood handle is nice noting a small loss to the top.  Nice long cutter with proper logo.  Good throat.   Some staining, nice rich patina, and no rust or major pitting.  Very Nice and very hard to find!!

Stanley # 8 Jointer Plane   This is a type 19 post WWII era jointer plane.  It is in super overall condition and the owner made wooden box did a great job of preserving it.  Everything is right and original.  There is well over 95% of the original japanning.  Full cutter w/ original grind.  Good wood.  No apologies.  Ready to go back to work.  Very Very Nice.

Stanley # 8C Corrugated Jointer Plane   This is a type 13 Sweetheart era production jointer plane. It has just one patent date, and Stanley is now cast into the cap  It is in fabulous condition and has been lightly cleaned.  Everything is right and original.  Full cutter. Stanley Type 4 Pre Lateral #8 Jointer Plane   This early pre lateral #8 jointer is in good condition. There has been losses to the japanning. The wood is nice. It has a nice long cutter, and it will be a fine user or is nice enough for the shelf.

Stanley # 8 Jointer Plane  This Stanley #8  jointer plane is a type 9 dating from 1902 - 1908.   It has a later high knob, but the rest of its features fits the type study for a type 9. There is well over 90% of the original japanning.  It has a very nice cutter.  The Rosewood handle is from the proper era and nice.   The sole is near perfect.   The overall condition is very nice and this plane will make for a great user.
